It was my understanding buyers could not leave negative feedback if a return was accepted. Buyer left negative feedback after I told him he lied about the return to avoid paying return shipping. eBay granted the refund and I got to keep funds because he either tried to use the part, or was dissatisfied it did not have a clutch lining (picture as such). He claimed bearing was bad, when returned we found it was not bad at all, I even relisted the item as it is not defective. eBay denied the feedback removal. Anyway, if buyers can leave negative feedback even after a return is accepted, then sellers are once more held hostage to the buyer. If a buyer lies, make sure not to say anything 😕

Buyers have always been able to leave fb on a returned item, unless the seller canceled the transaction. But if you won the case, he wouldnt have been able to leave fb.Since Ebay gave you a courtesy refund, thats not the same as winning.

If you offer free returns and are a top-rated seller, the feedback will be removed,

I'm not surprised about the buyer's feedback based on how you responded to him following the return.

Regardless if you felt the buyer lied you don't tell them they are lying and then expect them not to be happy with your return process. You are a very reputable seller. Don't deal with the hassle and argument with a buyer. The comment they made in your feedback that they claimed you said to them should have never been made. Just accept the return, issue a refund, even apologize it didn't work out and relist it. There is no need to argue with the buyer. They have a right to return the part. As far as the negative itself you need to make your listings 30 days returns seller pays for shipping back for Ebay even to consider removing your feedback. You have buyer pays for shipping back. That's not going to get your feedback removed.

ebay will deny almost every single removal request.
They have said they were going to get smarter about it but I have not witnessed that firsthand...in fact quite the opposite
