Community Chat, Oct 31st from 1:00 pm PDT - Volume Pricing Discount

Hi Sellers,

As the holiday season approaches, we know you are looking to optimize performance in any way you can. To help with these efforts, eBay has launched the Volume Pricing tool.  This tool enables promotional discounts for buyers that purchase two or more of the same item.  Those that have taken advantage of this new capability have already driven significant increases to order size.  In some cases, where sellers have been able to offer combined shipping, sales margin has also seen an improvement.

So how can you take advantage? Sellers can begin incentivizing buyers to purchase in greater quantities today. The Volume Pricing tool can be accessed via the marketing tab in Seller Hub.

To make things even sweeter, we are running a *promotion (through November 22nd) for sellers that enable volume pricing discounts on their listings.  For every incremental purchase made through volume pricing, we will give you a 50% discount on final value fees.

Join the conversation below from 1-2 pm Pacific on Oct. 31st. We would love to hear about how you plan to incorporate Volume Pricing discounts into your strategy this holiday season.

Thank you!

Alan - eBay Community Manager

This works across multiple SKUs/listings, but how is that displayed to the buyer?
     Listing 1 has blue t-shirts - qty 1
     Listing 2 has red t-shirts - qty 2
     Listing 3 has white t-shirts - qty 6
How will the buyer know they can get a greater discount by purchasing 4 items across different listings? I haven't seen a volume discount that has a link to see other items - does that exist?

For the time being we are managing the treatment in-listing but are definitely open to exploring how to optimize the experience for buyers that are interested in purchasing across multi-item offerings.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Translation: currently there is no way for buyers to have visibility? Please confirm if that's correct so I can manage my promotions accordingly.

I apologize for the delay in responding to your question.

You are correct, there is no way for buyers to have visibility within the volume pricing treatment as to discounts that can be applied across multiple listings.

At present, we want to make sure that buyers become familiar with the volume pricing as it is presented in a single listing. We also want to avoid confusion with other promotional treatments.  This could change as we incorporate variations into volume pricing and expand on what a promotion means.  I will continue to provide updates to the community as we solidify plans and iterate on the existing functionality.

Does the sale + markdown feature recognize items that are part of a volume discount promotion and exclude them?

It does not.  Though it may be an interesting enhancement for us to consider.

The discount application is managed at checkout. Item level discounts specified by sale/markdown/volume pricing are disambiguated; the greatest discount of the bunch ultimately applied.  As mentioned earlier in the thread, the only discount that stacks on top of the item level discount is a shipping discount.

Slightly on / slightly off topic. This is a general request regarding the Promotions Manager page.

Each promo has a little check box next to it but there are no buttons at the top to delete, pause, or perform other functions. The check boxes basically do nothing. Can buttons be added so we can perform actions to all checked items?

Great call out.

With as powerful as the promotions manager functions have become we need to make sure that sellers like yourself can easily create/edit/end promotions in bulk within the tool.  I will share your request with the team.

Thanks for all of your great questions.  I look forward to chatting more with you about this topic in the coming months.
