I have some questions about the applicability of some of the new IS in Home & Garden

Items listed in Home & Garden > Kitchen, Dining & Bar > Dinnerware & Serveware > Plates

is asking for "Character" and "Character Family" like Branded Toys

Also "Department" (Kids, Teens, Adult)

What the heck do those things have to do with Dinnerware??

Also this ... Cashmere and Silk and Down Serving Pieces?

(Second screenshot is a spelling thing ... it is spelled "Matte")

Hey @penguins_dont_fly Actually, you'd be surprised what Character Family and Character show up on. It's fairly universal. I will look into the department values my guess is this may be related to me re-establishing some of the dependencies between various item specifics (size type -> size for example). But, I'll take a look at those values. Lastly, thank you for the catch on "Matte". As you might imagine there is a lot of data and there are a lot of categories.

Thanks

The sizes from previous listings have NOT been "mapped" to the new required item specific.  You have to do it manually so far.  I have been checking and testing it ALL DANG DAY!  I'm not sure why you keep telling us what you are going to do, just do it.  Feeling pretty frustrated and this format is hard to follow.  Sorry if I seem short, just super frustrated.

When we say that it is mapped, we mean in our backend systems.  It will not be visible to you when looking at your listing.  But our systems understand so you will not be blocked when you revise and our search index will pick up your size.

Thanks Brian........I checked the announcement 1 minute before I posted.  The way this chat was announced, I presumed it would have updated info......so we wouldn't have to drag the answers out of someone....

Whatever.....

Hi Ron:

Relative to IS in general........there are ALOT of incorrect, redundant suggestions which frankly make Ebay look extremely stupid.....

For instance:

Clothing, Shoes & Accessories > Men > Men's Clothing > Shirts > Casual Button-Down Shirts

Size Type
8 suggestions found.

    Frequently Selected
    Regular
    Big & Tall
    Juniors
    Maternity
    Petites
    Plus
    Regular
    Tall

    Enter your own

Pretty obvious Maternity and Petites don't belong........I also doubt you need both "big and tall" and tall........or Juniors

This is the list of sizes in one category........Just picture trying to list 10-15/100/1000 things and having to find the size EACH TIME in this:

How CAN this type of thing happen?

This is the 4th quarter.........all most of us want to do is list (properly)........can't this stuff be walked back and let some real people work on improving it, while sellers actually list for the holidays?

I could give you ALOT more examples of both of the above........that you are telling sellers to deal with now.....

Thank you @dhbookds First, I completely agree. During the deployment, we hit and issue with the dependencies between size type and size (Big & Tall - > 3XL) for 5 categories. To clear the way for the deployment to complete, we deleted the dependency. We have addressed the base issue which caused the problem and are currently taking another pass at the design for these dependencies so that we can re-enable. While there is no functional issue with either listings or filtering in search, it just looks bad. I'm measuring twice and cutting once before deploying again.

I have absolutely NO idea what you are saying.........

Hi @dhbookds - we currently have size values for many different size types all combined (Big & Tall, Maternity, etc.).  We are working to tie the values into the size type & category so you (and buyers) will only see the relevant values rather than all values.

Thanks

Just a possible suggestion..would it be feasible to just revert back to the old item specifics, and reintroduce these new specifics at a later time after the 4th quarter has ended..perhaps you could get a group together of long time anchor store sellers, that can offer item specific advice for each of their niches, and formulate a better system that way...this way eBay and it's sellers and buyers can resume buying & selling again..to be honest, I don't forsee everything being properly fixed in the near future, but perhaps I am incorrect..I mean this in the most sincere & respectful way..

Kind Regards,

Rick

Hi, @luckywabbit

Reverting the changes could cause even more issues.  We're working 24/7 to get all the issues resolved.

Thanks.

@theposhhanger wrote:

Also, can we please remove "Department"?

We are already choosing the department when we are in the category.

When we are listing women's tops (for example) we already know the department is Women's; it is in the WOMEN'S category already. This should be an auto-fill at the very least but really shouldnt be there since we already selected WOMEN'S, when we started the listing.

The other "department" choices are:

Womens

Mens

Boys

Girls

Baby

Again, we already select these while we are in the category making out listings

thank you

We understand this part of the category structure, but it's important to have this information for situations where your listing is being shown in other contexts.  We are however going to be auto-filling item specifics like Department.

Thanks

Hi Ron! Thanks for doing this chat!

Will you drop a link here in the chat for the correct pdf document that we all should be referencing for all of the new IS changes and requirements? It seems that there's more than one link going around, and some are apparently outdated or incorrect. Can a date of issue be added to the doc so everyone knows that it's the "official" current document? Thanks!

Hi @moo*cow*corner

You can find all the required Item Specifics here: https://pages.ebay.com/seller-center/listing-and-marketing/item-specifics.html

@ca_jackdawthat is not true, or at least not yet.  I have personally logged out and tested it and my items that do not have the NEW required size field completed are invisible.

Hi @gulfcoasthula

We are aware that there are some listings not showing up when using filters, we are still working on resolving that.

Hi @dhbookds

New listings that are missing required Item Specifics will be blocked.  Existing GTC listings will not.

So, let me see if I've got this straight. ebay will map this behind the scenes, so to speak, so there is no way for a seller to know , when looking at his listing, whether ebay has actually mapped it correctly or not? A seller could, I gather, try to do a search using the filter to see if his item shows up. Sellers with thousands of effected listings probably won't like that idea.

Or am I missing something here? Is there an easy way for a seller to know that ebay has correctly mapped the item behind the scenes?

Hi @my-cottage-books-and-antiques

Unfortunately, there is no way to visually look at a listing and see our "behind the scenes" mapping.

Thanks

If I run a sale with Promotions Manager, (Markdown Manager) and marks down the price for the sale, that would NOT be a revision, correct?

Hi @my-cottage-books-and-antiques

Promotions manager would not be considered a revision.

Hi @mynewfindstore there are many different chat formats.  This is a discussion board based chat, like a Question and Answer style. Sorry if you were expecting video. We actually do these weekly in the Community, 12-1 PST on Wednesdays. This is a special chat dedicated to Technical issues reported within Seller Hub, and items specifics.

This is not really a "chat" then....I expected some video interaction....like on youtube.

I am worried about my eBay invoice. It is messed up. eBay added my Sept 30th payment which I paid to my current invoice there by almost doubling my current invoice. I know that it's a glitch and we are not supposed to call customer service. But I'm worried that it will not be fixed in time. Do you have any idea when this will be fixed. Thank You.

Hi @joesoucie22012, I definitely understand your concern. I want to clarify that this is a display issue only, meaning sellers will only be charged the correct amount even though an incorrect amount is displayed in the invoice.

Also, will ebay be issuing credits to sellers whose listings have been invisible due to these item specific glitches that were caused by ebay?  I'm not trying to be greedy here, but business is business and this most certainly is costing me money =(.  Again, an honest reply is most appreciated.  Thank you for your time.

Hi @gulfcoasthula, there are no announcements about this at this time. Our focus right now is on fixing the issues with Item Specifics and the Seller Hub.
