Re: Community Chat, January 29 @ 1:00 pm PT - General Topics

1. I asked a while ago what the qualifications were to get the "longtime member" designation on listings. Well, I noticed some time ago that I had acquired that designation. ~~WOOHOO~~ And today I noticed the listings say "Longtime member - Returns accepted - Free local pickup"  ~~Double WOOHOO~~
2 Another coup:I've been suggesting for years that, which a seller looks at his own listing, it should not bump the visit counter.
I just noticed a few days ago, that change has been made, too. So cool!

if you've set up an exclusion list that includes their country, so it sounds like you may not have an shipping exclusions set up

brian.t@ebay.com

How does that exclusion list work for buyers that use a US reshipper address?

It is showing in Scientific notation,  you can change the column formatting to NUMBER in excel and it will read correctly.

Re: Community Chat, January 29 @ 1:00 pm PT - General Topics

Hi all,

We're sincerely hoping that you can find a way to get any specific update from the people responsible for resolving the glaring omissions in the new Shipping confirmation email, regarding their progress in restoring all the information that got lost during the transition from the old Shipping form to the new one. As you probably recall, way back in May of last year this was reported in the Weekly Chat (here), along with comparison screenshots showing the lost data, and an itemized list of what was missing.

There have been several requests for updates since then: two weeks later (here), followed by two months later (here), and there was also an update from Brian.t on August 26 of last year (here) stating that they will be adding details related to the transaction. I replied at that time to ask whether they could provide any kind of template or dummy page showing the format that they are working towards (e.g. the shipment details being restored from the old format), so that sellers can provide them with some feedback before everything gets set in stone, in case anything is still missing from the new design, but heard nothing further in reply after that.

Summer turned to Fall. Fall turned to Winter. We seem to be no further into what is really a trivial job of correcting code, nor do we seem to have any concrete answers from whoever is coding the revisions as to what they are doing or when they think they will be done.

We can see that one change has been made, so we know that someone out there is aware of this. Previously, the buyer's Payment Method was listed as a PayPal link within the message, but if you clicked on it, you were instead given a form inviting you to send money to Feedback at eBay. (Yes, really.) That has now been removed, so that clicking on the buyer's Payment Method now brings up a window with nothing at all in it.

Most recently, another seller posted the same complaint yet again, and Brian.t has posted a prompt reply (here) to acknowledge it.

The problem now seems to boil down to the fact that whoever is supposed to be doing the work sees no sense of urgency at all about this. It's not entirely clear, from how it currently reads, that they even understand the purpose of the confirmation email. We have been hoping that comparison screenshots of Old vs. New would help their understanding, but given the near-total silence being conveyed back to you on the Community Team here, this resolution doesn't seem to be getting any traction.

What more can we do to help you push them along? I would be perfectly happy to email the details again, or even participate in a conference call. Thanks!

I have SERIOUS concerns about ebay charging my buyers sales tax on my shipping costs of postage. How is this legal? I am not charged tax at the post office or any vendors. Why is this happening. I have checked with some of states I have had buyers in, and not one contact has been able to pinpoint legislation that states this cost is to have sales tax collected.

I had a return mid December that I did a partial refund for as when the item came back it was clearly used and slightly damage.  So I issued a partial refund to accommodate that fact.  During the return flow, after I did the partial refund there was a message on my screen that stated the buyer was reported to Ebay for abuse of the return flow or system.  I don't remember the exact words.

As of today, my $6 credit or any portion of the $6 has not been credited to my account.  I called Customer Service earlier this week and he said that I would not be receiving that credit but had no real explanation.  He said some stuff that contradicted the written / publish policy, but we came to no understanding at all.

He promised to do more research and call me in the next couple of days.  I told him I wasn't trying to be rude at all, but in my 20+ years on Ebay, when a CSR from the call center says they will call me back, it has NEVER happened.  He was a very nice fellow and I do think he was trying to help me and he assured me he would call.

I've received no call.

Hi @mam98031 - In order to qualify for a shipping label subsidy credit you need to report the buyer through the Report a Buyer flow and make sure you are eligible (TRS + 30 day returns + US seller + listed on ebay.com)

Reports throughout the month are accumulated during your billing period and at the end of the billing cycle we determine your credit amount. Multiple returns credits may be combined into a single credit line on your invoice.

When it comes to the shipping label subsidy specifically, there is not a lot of detail I can provide. Customer service is not able to issue return shipping label credits or provide details of which reports from you resulted in credits, so I'm confused why they'd tell you it 'didn't qualify'.  I'm sorry to hear that you haven't gotten a call back as you were promised, I'll get that reported.

Re: Community Chat, January 29 @ 1:00 pm PT - General Topics

Currently, adding best offer option to eligible listings in bulk is an irreversible process (as far as I know). Is there any future plans or has there ever been any consideration to allow us to run best offer sales similar to mark down sales that would allow us to test a best offer model that is not permanent?

I have been wanting to test best offer as opposed to offering mark down sales but if it doesn't work out I would have a LOT of items to relist. Any advice or information on this issue or the topic in general?

I was extended an invitation to participate in the beta of the iOS app photo fix thing in a community response (I think last week or the week before), but all they gave was an email address. What info do I put in and I would want a little more info before fully committing. Meaning, what is the potential downside impact on my store? Thank you so much!

Hi @krys888 - congrats on the invite to the beta! It's a really fun tool that first debuted at eBay Open last year and I imagine has only gotten better since then.

The specific team that invited you is going to be best able to answer your questions - I'd encourage you to reply to the email with your questions so they can address them and you can decide if it's something that you'd like to try!

A 90 day download is currently what's available. To my understanding we do not have plans to change this, so you'll want to do a download at least once every 90 days to ensure you have all the data you need.

During a recent "eBay UpFront" event in New York, eBay executive Harry Temkin said that eBay would make ten years' worth of transaction history available instead of the current limit of just 90 days.  Temkin didn't say if the expanded availability of historic sales data would be retroactive.

Questions concerning Canada, listing on Can & US sites, and managed payments.

If we live in Canada and list on .ca and .com, do we go under managed payments for .com or not until .ca goes on managed payments, if we do?

If we go to managed payments, will we be able to have .com payments deposited to a US bank account and .ca payments deposited to a Canadian bank account.

Managed payments seem to be a great big secret for outsiders, and we Canadians have been told stories by staff no longer with Ebay, so please find out the correct answers for me and other Canadians.

Hi @papermoneyforme - there are no currently available details for how managed payments will work for Canadian members. This is because the program is focused on .com members with a US registered address who meet other eligibility criteria.

We expect the vast majority of members to be enrolled in managed payments by 2021, so I would imagine that we have more details as the program expands.

Until that time, no one will be able to provide you with those details - whether they are currently or formerly employed with eBay.  Thanks!

So this is basically the same as Canada getting the same store tiers as the US, only the Shadow knows and he ain't telling.

I mean, at least with this you have a year that you'll be involved by. 😉

It is showing in Scientific notation,  you can change the column
>formatting to NUMBER in excel and it will read correctly.

You may need to do two things:

1. widen the column so there's room for the whole number without scientific notation
2. select the column, go into Format > Cells > Number, and tell it 0 decimal places

Hi @easterbasset - sales tax is charged based on the buyer's address at checkout. Some states require tax to be collected on both the purchase price and shipping cost, other states don't. @mam98031 gave you a great resource that could be a quick reference for you in the future, but bear in mind that state taxes can fluctuate so it may not always be accurate. Thanks!
