Hello everyone!

I ran into a problem listing a set of ten adult coloring books.  The title of one of them is Amazon Animals.  How can I list the title/name of my item if there is a restricted word in it?  Call it "the South American Jungle that starts with A" Animals coloring book? Who's going to find that.

Hi @fuzzymae, this would not be considered a violation of any policies as there are numerous products that contain both Amazon and Animals in their title or description. What category were you attempting to list this in? Did you receive an email or notification related to a block?

This just started sometime yesterday: you can't use the word "Amazon" in any context in your listing.

It's very similar to the policy change a couple of years ago, that you can't describe ethnic jewelry as Native, African, Tribal, Indian, etc. unless you have a certificate from the maker proving it is from an approved source.
First, you couldn't use the category.
Then you couldn't mention those words in the title.
Finally, a couple of years ago, you couldn't use those words in the Description either.

This new policy adds "Amazon" to the list of illegal words in a title or description.

Hey a bug! Imagine that.  On the seller perfomance page all the stats are now based on a 3 month window where previously some were 1 year and some were 3 months.

On a related note (regarding inconsistent interval lengths), I notice that on a user's Feedback page, the Feedback as a Buyer tab shows what is described as the total number of bid retractions over the past 12 months (right side of the page, about halfway down).

However, it shows what appears to be the same number labeled as a 6-month total if viewing the user's 30-day bidding history in an Auction Bid History view. (You have to log out first, so that you can see the 30-day bidding history by clicking on the user's disguised ID on the Bid History page.) One or the other must be mislabeled.

Re: Community Chat, Feb 21th @ 1pm PT - General Topics

When I attempted to re-list the item from my unsolds list I got this message:

It looks like your listing contains a reference to another site. For example, you may be trying to compare prices or mention where this item was purchased. Referencing other sites where items can be purchased, even if you don’t link directly to them, isn’t permitted. Please remove the reference from your listing.

It came up on the ebay site, I have not gotten any other sort of notification.  I only figured out the word through trial and error.  It is a new issue - started last week.

Thanks ebay for providing this forum to address issues.
This issue is ongoing and ebay has been aware of it for over 1 month. I asked last chat and did not receive a reply
Why does ebay still tell prospective store owners that there are 10+ sizes of boxes available when looking at it today there are only 4 sizes available.?
When is ebay going to either provide the 10+ boxes as they state or change the statement?

Has the shipping Supplies team that you referenced in previous chats replied to your inquiry on this issue or has your request been ignored?

Does eBay track how often posters report that they are receiving incorrect or confusing instructions from CS?  There seems to be a significant uptick in the number of posts where other sellers are coming to the forums because CS is not providing guidance that is easily understood and more importantly accurate.

The language barrier has been mentioned frequently lately so I'm wondering if the off-shore CS staff has been increased instead of the US based staff.

Hi @dtexley3@, we absolutely track these kinds of concerns and appropriate coaching is provided to the agents in question. If you see reports of misinformation being provided, you are welcome to @mention a member of the Community Team so we can ensure that the correct info is made clear and look into the conversation with Customer Service for improvements.

hehehe, I don't "ring the bell" often enough as it is?????

Never too often, @dtexley3@! Our goal is to improve the eBay experience overall, from tool enhancements, site changes or internal adjustments for training or processes. Happy to review any @mentions we receive for appropriate action!

Terapeak.

I believe I read that eBay considers this to be a valuable marketing resource for pricing.  And maybe it is for some.  In our experience, it is a caching site only.  I use it to find listings of ours which have been removed for one reason of another long ago; it's a 50-50 shot whether or not the information is there, however.

It is causing a bit of havoc, however.  For the first time ever, I've fielded two calls in the past week or so from potential buyers who, knowing eBay now owns Terapeak, found old listings of ours and called to inquire.  Problem is, both items sold and shipped over two years ago!  These buyers were not interested in purchasing anything else, only what they were seeing on Terapeak, believing it to be accurate and up-to-date.

So.  Any way to put a disclaimer on Terapeak that shows it is a caching site rather than a back door into eBay?  These buyers were polite, but they were ticked off they'd wasted valuable time inquiring after something they thought available.

Hi Trinton and Alan

A couple of things. Buyers are very upset and this thread is an example of US sellers either drop shipping from China or the overseas seller saying the item location is in the US so they can go around the filters. This really needs to be addressed.

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Bidding-Buying/Misrepresentation-buyer-won-t-issue-refund/m-p/28144802...

Also - if Lithium does updates - can we please get an ignore button! There are at least 7 new posting ids within the past 2 weeks that like to do nothing but bait people. I've been called to multiple threads by these new IDs and consider it harrassment and have notified the mods to the situation. I don't know if these are people on suspensions - circumventing the block or what but it's time those causing problems are dealt with instead of telling those of us trying to help out on the boards to just ignore them.

Funny... I spend a lot of time on these boards and I haven't noticed any of this. In fact, i think the boards are more helpful and useful now than they have been for a very long time. It's good to see "blues" around like the "pinks" used to be way back when.

I think the boards are headed in a very good direction.

Chaos is NOT an "industry standard".

Heck, no.
As far as I know, the prohibition on using the word "Amazon" just started yesterday.
I relisted a bunch of items Monday, and got no error message.
But any that mentioned Amazon were blocked yesterday until I removed the word.

Re: Community Chat, Feb 21th @ 1pm PT - General Topics

And when can we expect our business partner, ebay, who we pay money to for services, to actually provide those services in a timely manner.  Getting an email 12-18 hours after something has happen, listing, selling, etc, is not what we are paying for.

Any occasional delays that I get for the sold notifications that are late are only on 1 account.  It uses a different email server.  PayPal payment notices come in OK.

Re: Community Chat, Feb 21th @ 1pm PT - General Topics

Promotions banners moved to the bottom of listings with no notice to sellers. Ebay said the reason was "initial testing showed an increase in sales when promotional information was moved below the description". I can't believe that moving to the bottom would increase sales and that other factors caused that increase.

Can you get back to us and let us know if further testing (hopefully that is happening) continues to show improved sales?
Can we see any of the data?

Thank you for allowing me to post to this Community Chat about Ebays new unwritten rules. I checked the policies and could not find any that pertain to the Customer Service message in quotes below.
Seller now must educate buyers.
I'm not sure if everyone knows but Ebay now says "A seller has  a vested interest in the success of the eBay platform and as such have a responsibility to educate their customers of any policy concerns that come up in a transaction."
That sure sound mandatory and is very concerning.

So now sellers must educate buyers if a buyer uses ebay messages and sends the seller a message with a possible policy violation in the message.
Ebay has the ability to stop customers from sending any message that may violate ebay policy. but instead will mark the buyers account with a warning and also mark the sellers account with a warning even though the seller had nothing to do with the message. That's right both accounts are marked with a warning.
Myself I think that's eBay's job as eBay has the ability to stop buyers from sending emails that ask sellers to violate policy. And while the seller can respond to policy questions they are aware of, making it the responsibility of sellers is wrong as all sellers may not be aware of all policies or may interpret eBay's policies different than how eBay interprets them.
Sellers do not work for ebay. eBay employs Customer Service Reps for these types of questions of eBay's policies.
So be careful with all questions by buyers. You may have to answer any implied questions. You may have to research all of eBay's policies.

My question is where can I find this information in eBay policies?
Please show me the link.

Hi @mallontown - there isn't a policy that officially states that a seller is required to educate a buyer on any potential violations they may be committing. This would simply be a suggestion that benefits you and your customers.

This is a recommendation that a member may want to take the time to advise another member of rules that may be being broken in communication. However, we don't expect you to. We do have Customer Service teammates who review messages and educate members or take action on policy violations.

Ultimately we want your business to do well, and so we have a number of suggestions on how best to do that - from Best Match suggestions, to optimizing for mobile, to staying compliant with modern Internet browser standards. These aren't things we are requiring of you or your business, but tips, advice and changes that we believe will help you succeed.

In addition to the business-focused areas, there are also suggestions on how best to grow the eBay community of members (buyer and seller alike). Providing great customer service is one of those, as is answering questions, and sometimes helping new members understand the rules of the road. However, since it's not something that we would require, that's why there's no official policy. Thanks!

Re: Community Chat, Feb 21th @ 1pm PT - General Topics

Are FedEx Ground, Home Delivery, AND SmartPost rates now calculating correctly all 3 places:

1.  On the shipping tool

2. When the buyer purchases the item

3. When the seller purchases the label

This has been in various stages of messed up since January 1.

There are examples all over these boards. I can send links to a few dozen threads if you haven't seen them.

Re: Community Chat, Feb 21th @ 1pm PT - General Topics

Thank you for providing this forum to address issues. I am repostingthis unanswered question.

I had 19 of 32 items arrive after ebays stated delivery date for December 19th shipping
Ebay decided to use its own shipping metrics over USPS stated holiday delivery dates.
All 32 items were shipped within the 1 day handling.
I previously posted this but did not get an answer from the shipping team explaining how thier metrics were so bad that it caused 60% of items to arrive after the date ebay showed buyers
That is not a good buying experience for buyers and will make people wary of buying from ebay sellers in the future.
Can you forward this to the shipping team and get an answer to why their metric were so bad?

@Anonymous  Last week I was helping a member on the UK forum whose relist was similarly blocked.

"It looks like your listing contains a reference to another site.
For example, you may be trying to compare prices or mention where this item was purchased.
Referencing other sites where items can be purchased,
even if you don’t link directly to them, isn’t permitted.
Please remove the reference from your listing.{e56127-975535x}"

They used the Sandbox scanner tool and it showed no external links. I manually checked the source of several ended listings and saw no links. However, I did see that the description included something like "compatible with Amazon Fire Stick".  The seller removed the brand name from the description and the listing posted.  The filter writers need to work on that one.
