The scroll wheel should still work (as do the arrow keys or page up/down) -- the problem is the scroll bar on the right side of the page is entirely missing. Many users rely on using that scroll bar with the mouse cursor to scroll up or down, and switching to another method takes conscious effort.

Seems strange to NOT use the wheel. You already have the mouse in hand to click on an item? But anyway, I get it. I guess that is what is missing (scroll bar)
