"Recently Viewed" - WTH?

Has anyone figured out yet how to eliminate this horrible new "Recently Viewed" feature? (Located to the left of "My eBay")

This feature is proving extremely disruptive, over and over. 30 to 40 times a day, my system basically "freezes up" every time I even brush past the **bleep** thing.

GET RID OF IT, EBAY!!

Get yourself an ad blocker for your browser, such as AdBlock, Adblock Plus or UBlock. For blocking individual elements, I like AdBlock.

To eliminate the recently viewed carousel from the main page, add this line to your ad blocker's custom filter:

ebay.com##DIV[id="items_list1"][class="hl-module hl-standard-carousel off-card hl-atf-module-js"]

The "block an ad on this page" feature of AdBlock allows a user to get rid of all sorts of annoying features, not just advertisements.

After posting my previous response, I realized that you are probably referring to the little "recently viewed" flyout at the top of the page, not the carousel on the main page.

I had forgotten about the little flyout because I eliminated that annoying feature shortly after it appeared.

See here -- go to the sixth message of the thread for the most comprehensive version of the filter rule as suggested by berserkerplanet:

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Recently-Viewed-in-FULL-view/m-p/29748650#M56146

or just use this:

ebay.com##DIV[class="gh-menu gh--link__divider"]

Re: "Recently Viewed" - WTH?

@eburtonlab - Do you have any opinion on that particular feature? And have you yourself blocked it?

I've actually got AdBlock Plus, but I've never tried to "customize" it. Didn't even know it was possible. I'll attempt it ASAP.

Previous suggestions on this matter have failed to yield results.

See my second reply -- yes, about the second or third time I accidentally moused over that link and the flyout menu appeared I nuked that feature and promptly forgot about it.

Re: "Recently Viewed" - WTH?

I've been all through the AdBlock Plus settings, and nothing has worked.

I tried to copy and paste those links in  "Add a New Filter List" and "Create Your Own Filter List".

The first one came back in the red, and said "Enter a Valid URL". The "Create You Own" accepted it, but did not solve the problem.

Maybe we're all seeing different things here. I use eBay off a laptop on Windows 7.

Let me see if I can undo my AdBlock filters and block it using Ad Block Plus instead. Give me few minutes. It's possible that eBay has made some changes to the feature since I blocked it originally -- I no longer see it on some pages, and it does not always flyout when I hover the cursor over it (which was my main issue with the feature).

When members refer to a "carousel", I'm not clear on what that even is.

I originally thought you were referring to a similar feature on the main page -- there is a display of recently viewed items (which can be rotated with arrows, like the banner ads on the main page), but that is distinct from the little "recently viewed" link that appears at the top of many pages lately.

Re: "Recently Viewed" - WTH?

Another problem is that the AdBlock thumbnail is in the direct vicinity of the Recently Viewed feature (Upper right-hand corner).

When I click on Block Element, it opens out - directing me to "click on an element to block it". But the field spreads right over the offending element, making it impossible to block it.

@replayaz

Using Chrome with Ad Block Plus, I clicked on the Ad Block Plus icon in the menu bar of my browser, and then went into settings by using the little gear icon. Under "Advanced Settings" there is a section called "Create and edit your filter list" -- under "My filter list" clicked on "edit", I added the following line:

ebay.com##DIV[class="gh-menu gh--link__divider"]

And then hit "save".

And that should get rid of the little "recently viewed" link at the top of eBay pages.

I also have trouble with that "block element" feature of ABP -- I find that AdBlock is much easier to work with for generating element hiding rules.  I actually have both Ad Block Plus and AdBlock installed in the browser I use most often, though I use AdBlock only for the custom filter list and ABP for the filter subscriptions that block most of the commercial ads.

But the syntax for the rules should be the same for both -- at least that has been my experience.

OK, I've followed the exact steps as you've directed, and the link is showing as Saved. However, it has not solved the problem.

Please keep in mind, when you are in "eBay Community", the Recently Viewed will not display.

Can you confirm it works for you in General eBay?

In Chrome on a Windows 10 machine where I have that rule installed in ABP, I can confirm that I do not see the "recently viewed" link at the top of the page on ebay.com. When I pause ABP and refresh the page, the link returns. So it is working for me.
