within the last few days, I am constantly prompted to verify myself with the stupid captcha picture thing. I see this "test" several times a day whenever I log in or answer a message, create a listing or purchase something. It's getting old fast.
Any ideas of this new development? I am using an old Dell with XP, so I'm obsolete already but this constant verification process is a new, extra aggravating waste of time.

If this is a recent development, try disabling your ad blocker on the sign-in page, or try another browser.
If that does not help, there are further suggestions to be found in the rest of the thread.

Does my comment (that I made) below have anything to do with why I have a hard time, hence partially-shaded 'send' box, when I be am on an un-related paging of Ebay --- IN WHICH I HAVE NO ACCESS TO REPLY/SEND A MESSAGE? (as I have been logged in)
The above intended message was for the reason about disputing claimed purchases, from a seller; claimed multiple purchases that I had NOT made of.
SUCH as reporting this === where Ebay online is of no help; rather just bureaucracy.

This thing comes up to me after about every 5-6 searches. I am selling things, I need to search for items using the "sold" filter to see their average net worth. I am logged in so obviously, I cannot be a bot... they do their stuff without logging in. Why is Ebay doing this? Y'd think they would WANT people to search their site and buy items... Can anyone tell how one can disable this?

Yeah that annoying login "prove you're not a bot" nag page started do the same thing to me weeks ago. Today I believe I figured out what makes the browser and ebay do this everytime.
Do you by chance have an ad blocker like Adblock Plus or the Ghostery addon/extension installed in the browser you're using? If so try disabling them on just eBay. I have both of those addon's installed for Firefox and as long as I keep them enabled (blocking) on eBay then the capatcha page is displayed every time I start a new browser session and try to login.
Also I have set the privacy settings to destroy all cookies and other internet history when the browser is closed. I have not tested to see if setting the security settings to defaults helps. I do know that "trusting" eBay within the AdBlock and Ghostery addons/extensions appears to have stopped that behavior when logging into eBay. Maybe this was the issue for a lot of people all along. Hope that helps.

Ebay IT people are amatures!

Yeah ebay is losing money they have no business sense whatsoever, every change they make upsets people and usually cost them money in efficiencies since nothing gets applied correctly and they are willing to live with glitches indefinitely and pretend they're not glitches.
Anyway I had over a minute to switch accounts and try to get a bid in. Normally this would have been no problem without going through the verification process, I was not able to get the bid in, I did not win the auction so, it did not go for as much as it would have gone for. ebay inturn lost money. I didn't get the item, super, super annoying, inefficient and costly. But that's pretty much how you can sum up ebay.

This was never solved and goes all the way back to 2016, it is 2021 now typically ebay.

If you use a different browser for each account and do not erase your cookies you can stay signed in to each account at the same time and avoid having to go through verification each time you want to use a different eBay account. That could save you a lot of hassle, particularly if you are having a hard time signing in.

The folks that were having problems in 2016 are not the same folks having problems in 2021. Most likely the problems (and solutions) are entirely different, as eBay has changed the sign-in and verification process several times in the intervening years (and most likely will do so again).
The vast majority of users are not having a problem; if you are among the minority experiencing a problem, you may want to explore what the difference is between your own browser/device/settings/network and those of users that are not experiencing the same problem. There may be some steps you can take to avoid the issue entirely.

Any chance you are using a VPN? I have been using one for years and having the "captcha" thing every time I log on is just normal for me.

I get the same thing. The web page says this happens occasionaly. Ocassionaly is not every time and as we are on a slow broadband, getting slower with all these people now working from home, I can spend ten minutes or more refreshing the security measure again and again and again. eBay needs to sort this out before everybody rises up and finds a different selling/buying hub.

I was having a similar issue. I have two eBay accounts, one for my business and one for personal. To stay logged into both for convenience, I have been using two browsers. Chrome for the business account, and Firefox for the personal. It was on the personal account that I was constantly being nagged to verify that I'm not a bot. I solved the problem by switching from Firefox to Edge browser. Apparently something about Firefox that eBay hasn't been liking lately. Your mileage may vary, but this solved the problem for me.
