Did you mean:

bookmarks for items viewed

I used to click on an item and it would highlight and stay that way.  I could go back the next day and still see that I viewed the item.  Now it seems that after I exit ebay those go away and appear like the not viewed items.  How can I get that back?  I am using Chrome.  I check my cookie setting and they should be correct.  Other sites react correctly and mark the viewed items or threads.  So it looks like it is just a Ebay setting issue.  Any Help?

Re: bookmarks for items viewed

It can't hurt.

Once you have changed it in your bookmarks file,

It should be good to go, but running a quick check

by tapping Enter to make sure you

did it right is a good idea.

You will have to do this with each

of your search / browse bookmarks

but you should have to do them only once.

Assuming you sort by Newly Listed items first

and run your searches once a day...

if you are not getting more than

25 New Listings per day

you will never need to get to

page 2 to see the color change

and may not benefit from all this work.

On the other hand if you are getting

many more than 25  New Listings every day

and with  ipg set to  25 you are havingto go

through an annoying number of short pages

to reach the color changed last item

remember that the other valid values

for    &_ipg=    are 50 or 100 or 200.

And you can always tweek the

bookmarked search/browse URL.

===================

Obviously Trick 2  will have to be done

each time you run the search

on the plus side the useless   :rk:1...   arguement

is always at the very end of the item URL

and easy to delete.

.... so far.

Re: bookmarks for items viewed

Looks like there will be not help from Ebay... maybe they think we stop looking when we reach the bookmark so now we will have to keep looking past that until we recognize something already viewed.  That would help sellers who are the first interest to Ebay.

Re: bookmarks for items viewed

This was driving me nuts too—suddenly, no way to tell which items I'd already viewed?

In case no one found a practical solution, here's how I fixed it, and it was pretty easy. I use the Firefox browser, so I'm illustrating these steps in Firefox.

1. Open Firefox's Options (click the 3-line "menu" icon in upper right corner, then click Options).

2. In the menu at the right, click "Privacy and Security", then scroll down a bit to the section called "Cookies and Site Data".

3. Click the "Manage Permissions" button:

4. A window appears called "Exceptions – Cookies and Site Data". In the "Address of website" box, type: ebay.com

5. Click the "Allow" button, then click "Save Changes".

The change takes effect immediately, and search links to eBay pages you've already visited are purple instead of blue.

If you use a browser other than Firefox, a  similar option will be available. Just look for settings related to website-specific permissions for cookies, and set your browser to accept all eBay cookies. Cheers!

Re: bookmarks for items viewed

That looked promising but it hasn't worked for me. No catch-up with previously clicked links and new ones still disappear as soon as the list is updated. Same on ebay.com and ebay.co.uk.

But thanks for the post. It's infinitely more than eBay have offered; their continuing failure to offer any explanation or suggestions is appalling customer service. Does anyone know a way to prompt Community moderators to take this up?

Re: bookmarks for items viewed

Beginning on Mon 3/4/19 eBay began rolling back this "RK..." nonsense.

As of Wed 3/6, none of my 41 searches or 74 category browses or 33 dealer lists are plagued by RK.

Visited colors go to red as it was before ebay began this experiment.

Presumably the eBay MBAs used it to "scrape up data"

which they will now scuttle off and "get granular" with.

Re: bookmarks for items viewed

Good:  That the feature is working again.

Bad:  That eBay messed with it in the first place.

Ugly:  That they refused to acknowledge complaints or explain the issue.

Re: bookmarks for items viewed

I've yet to test this latest 'roll-back'.
But having been invited to comment on a couple of purchases in the past few months - via a couple of eBay 'surveys' - I made my feelings on this particular subject pretty clear...!!!
With the best will in the world, let's hope that this thread becomes redundant, eh?

Re: bookmarks for items viewed

It's simply astonishing that a website would lose functionality instead of becoming better for the user. Remember being able to use the *, as in 201* in searches? eBay's explanation was that less than 1% of searches were using something like 10% of bandwidth. Short-term outlook, resting on their laurels. I though a Chinese company would setup shop and challenge eBay in the U.S., but this doesn't look likely any time soon.
