Repeatedly Signing In

I am posting this here because I do not see a "technical issues and problems" type of forum.

For days now I have to sign in over and over every time I want to access My eBay pages, e.g. items bidding on, items purchased, items selling, etc.

Is anyone else having the same issue?  I have seen this happen before, but it has not happened in a while.

eBay seems to regularly changes portions of the site that really do not need anything done to them, and other portions that could be improved are never touched.

Re: Repeatedly Signing In

Yes we get the same thing here.  I think it is because so many accounts have been hacked.  I have not found a way around it.  I want to enable the 2 factor with the phone number on my account also to get a code but I need to have my office helpers phone number on there also.  Of course that means more work to get the code but I want to try it to see if I can stay signed in all day.  I am using Edge on Windows 10.  Bill

Re: Repeatedly Signing In

Hi Bill. Thanks for the reply. Well, it is not just I then who is having this issue.

I have not heard of accounts being hacked recently, but I have heard that it has happened in the past. I heard eBay itself and PayPal have been hacked, too. Just goes to show no one is totally safe.

As something of an aside, one of my credit card companies contacted me a few days ago because of a suspicious charge that appeared on my account the day before in California (not on-line). I had not been in California, and I confirmed this, so they cancelled my card. I have to now wait 7-10 days for a replacement card, and then I will have to change information on my payee accounts at my bank. It is so frustrating, and this is not the first time I have had something like this happen. This is why I refused to give significantly more person information on another selling website in order to sell there. It simply is not worth it.

It is not just sites like eBay that this hacking occurs, either. My medical insurance company informed me about four years ago that its site had been hacked. Whoever did it took all sorts of information including SSN, dates of birth, names, addresses, phone numbers, etc. The company bought identity theft protection for everyone for four years, but what happens after that? I love using the Internet, but this sort of thing makes me wonder if it is truly worth it or not.

Re: Repeatedly Signing In

I'm using a Windows 10 OS with a Chrome browser. Just FYI, I've never experienced what you describe.

Re: Repeatedly Signing In

I wasn't implying anything. When I posted, the OP had not given any indication of the OS or browser s/he was using. I posted my OS and browser so the OP would be aware of what I use and that I am not having any trouble. Nothing more. I'm certainly not suggesting that the OP is lying or mistaken or anything else. I'm just sharing information that relates to the OP's problem.

Being required to repeatedly sign in to eBay might be an indication of a problem with your browser not accepting cookies, or a corrupt eBay cookie.

Try another browser as a test to see if the same problem occurs. If not, go back to your original browser and check to make sure you are set to accept cookies. Try deleting your eBay cookies. With a corrupt or blocked cookie, simply deleting all cookies may not be sufficient.

Other things that can cause sign in issues: using private or incognito windows, or certain disk cleaning utilities that routinely delete browser cookies (there is usually a setting that allows you to exempt a site's cookies if you wish).

If the problem still occurs with multiple browsers, that might be an indication of an issue with your account itself.

Back when eBay changed the sign in page last summer, some folks using Microsoft browsers had issues with the "keep me signed in" checkbox on the sign in page not working correctly. There is an additional checkbox in the Site Preferences section of the Account Settings that can also be checked. If that box is already checked, try unchecking, hit "apply", sign out, sign back in and recheck that box and "apply" again.

Re: Repeatedly Signing In

Thanks, eburtonlab. Very helpful info. It might indeed be a browser issue. I have had another problem with my browser stalling if I have too many tabs open. Never used to have that problem until Chrome updated the browser some time back.
