Picture not working

It would be nice if all the pictures in item descriptions were working. Customers need to  see all the  photos not every other one. This is through all the items I checked out?????????????????????

So, we are just to be patient while we  lose bids???????????

I can hear it already -- Sorry, we had a problem. How much  money is  sorry worth.

I'm thinking about  taking down all  my auctions and restarting later.

VERY UPSET

I eventually found a similar complaint on the Member to Member board:

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Member-To-Member-Support/Why-is-every-other-photo-skipped-when-viewing...

Apparently the problem only occurs only when using the arrow keys on the keyboard to advance the images -- clicking on individual images or using the arrow icon to advance seems to work as expected. Images are loading, but are simply skipped over when advancing using the keyboard.

In Edge, Avast browser or Opera on a PC, using the arrow key skips every other image.

When I try that in Firefox or Chrome, it actually skips over two images, so if I start at the first image, I then see the fourth, seventh and tenth (and then the last).

So far I have not found an alternate key combination that works to advance the images one at a time, so the only workaround I can offer is to use the mouse to select one of the skipped over images and proceed from there. If there are an odd number of images you can get the odd numbered images going forward and the even numbered images going back from the last image (at least in Edge, Avast or Opera for a PC). Or use the arrow icons instead of keys to advance.

That's good information and very helpful.

In the cases where I saw photos not displaying, I wasn't using arrow keys.  Just going to the listing resulted in no photos displaying (i.e. main and thumbnails) or just the main photo displaying.

For the times where I clicked on the photo to scroll through the slide show, I used my mouse to scroll through.  When there was a problem only some of the photos would display.

Hi @greg5000, can you give me an item number to review? I've been testing this out but have been unable to recreate the issue you are describing with the listings I've looked at.

Hi Trinton,

I noticed this a number of time between ~ May and mid July.  I haven't noticed it recently, so I don't have an item number to reference.  I had mentioned it was random, and if I went back into the listing at a later time it seemed to resolve.

If I see it again I'll take a screenshot and post it.

@Anonymous

You can turn this one over with the exact situation laid out for once.........lol

Hi @dhbookds, I can pass this along for review though we may find that this is not a site error but instead working as intended; most people do not use the arrow keys on their keyboard to navigate photos like this, as their hand is already on the mouse when they click into the photo.

This "most people" assumption is not true and a poor assumption.  I always use(d) the keyboard for navigating through the photos because it does not require me to move the mouse back up to the right-hand, inconvenient location.  Put me on the list as a savvy computer user who DOES (DID) use the keyboard to advance through photos... until it stopped working correctly and I realized I would not be viewing my photos in the same order that my potential Buyers would.  This glitch is a real bummer for me, personally.  I would really like to see it fixed because it hampers my listing progress.  I have to now remember to remove my hand from my keyboard and go back to my mouse to go to the next photo.  Not convenient at all.

Thanks very much for listening to my two cents.

I hope that eBay reconsiders and fixes that bug -- there is no good reason for the pictures to advance in that particular fashion.

In the mean time, one possible workaround to minimize hands-off-the-keyboard time: when the first enlarged picture loads, if I hit the tab key twice, the right arrow is highlighted (very faintly). At that point, hitting enter will act the same as clicking on that arrow icon, and I can step through the pictures in the correct order.

If I hit the tab too many times, that "highlight" will go through every possible clickable link in the browser including the toolbars, so if I go too far, shift-tab will back up. Or I can use the mouse to click on the arrow and then use the enter key from there.

I have verified this works with Firefox, Edge, Avast, Opera for the PC and Chrome on my Windows 10 machine. It is a little harder to get used to than simply using the arrow keys, but after some practice it is much quicker than grabbing a mouse each time.

Re: Picture not working

on all of your listings using a web based browser I was able to see the pictures. On 1 of them when I clicked on the picture and tried flipping through the images after the 4th or 5th image there was a delay where the blue circle came up for a min while the image loaded then the images were available. Perhaps this is a browser issue. Make sure you have the latest version of the browser and that your computer is fully updated. Then clear the browser data and try this on another browser and another device to see if the issue persists.

@8287davidm   Have you logged out of your account then gone to one of your items like a regular Buyer?

Hi @8287davidm, I just wanted to update that our tech teams are investigating this and I've added everyone here to the list of users who are running into this experience. Thanks for your help!

Re: Picture not working

I am experiencing the same issue on all eBay listings and items.  Using arrow keys to advance through images jumps every other picture.  Been like this for a couple months now.  Very frustrating!

Re: Picture not working

I am also having trouble using the arrow keys on my keyboard.  It is so much faster using those that I feel like I can't browse items as fast as I did just a few months ago.  I don't understand why this is taking so long for them to fix.
