I have never seen this myself and I have been selling 22 years on here...
It appears EBAY's new Ai search is not just searching what you type it is also including words for the definition of that word. I have sold many Chevron Gas & Oil things in the past. The difference today is if you type in Chevron it will also bring up any listing that has the word "stripe" in the title or item specifics. Chevron I have learned is a pattern with stripes, but why is it bringing up Adidas items just because they are "the 3 striped brand".
I have never seen anything like this but thought I would share the info as to maybe a help or a partial answer to the craziness that is going on with the search these days.

Exactly!!! Bah humbug!! Horrible sales, search is constantly broken.

No one should ever have to use quotes to search an item.

"No one should ever have to use quotes to search an item."
And why would the average eBay buyer be aware of this "search gimmick"?
For that matter -- why would ANY eBay buyer be aware of this nonsense?!?
Is eBay hiring its tech crew from competing sites?
How else to account for this deliberate sales sabotage?

I listed an "eBay's Search For Dummies" book.
No one could find it.😀

I once asked one of the forum employees if the developers use a testing environment or if they just test on the live site.
My question was never acknowledged, or answered.
Now I'm leaning more to they actually have a testing environment and play around with it, but none of them have ever sold anything on the platform (maybe not even bought anything either), so don't have any way of knowing if their changes actually work or mess things up.
Then they release it on the live site and the Artificial Idiot (AI) takes over making its own changes because that's what it was designed to do - change constantly.
I'd bet money they don't even know what changes AI makes or how to revert the changes that it makes back to the previous coding.
That's why it reminds me of HAL in 2001 A Space Odyssey. The ending does not bode well for the humans.

I’ve been selling Department 56 items during the holidays for the past 2 years, always starts after Halloween and really starts to pick-up in the middle of November, this year almost nothing, I even tried a 20% coupon to get things moving, recently upped it to 30% OFF, still nothing!?
