It's clear that there are many threads addressing a similar problem; the rising number of problems with log-in / Captcha.
In many of those cases, the problem turns out to be something that can be remedied at the user's end. Disabling a VPN, or disabling privacy software such as Disconnect or Ghostery; changing a browser or changing browser settings; clearing eBay cookies; allowing enhanced tracking or not blocking third party cookies; not blocking scripts.
The vast majority of users with recent browsers not using VPNs or very specialized security settings do not seem to be running into problems signing in at the moment.
Yes, it is annoying when a security measure does not work perfectly, and sign-in loops can happen for some users when changes are made (by eBay or by users). Sometimes a browser update can cause an issue, which is why trying another browser can often help.
This just feels punitive. The problem comes and goes... without any communication with us. If there's a problem... why wouldn't we be notified?... especially when eBay is the only site causing us trouble.
I can certainly understand that it feels that way when you run into a problem like that. But eBay has no interest in making it any harder for legitimate users to sign in than it has to be to thwart various scammers and hackers. eBay has some unique challenges because so many individual users buy and sell on eBay, but all internet sites make changes to their security features, and they very rarely announce or explain those to users.
