Eliminate New Auto-Pay Requirement when Submitting Best Offers.

Auto Pay linked to Best Offers is a terrible idea, and the fact that eBay didn't communicate the change is worse for Buyers and Sellers.

It makes combined shipping more complicated for the seller.  If a BUYER wants to buy more than one item of mine, their knowing that combined shipping will be a matter they'll have to bring up with the seller because of the new Auto Pay, they might not bother with buying more from my store. Lost revenue. I recently had to go back-and-forth with a seller on figuring out how to deal with this. They didn't have much experience on issuing refunds, which is fine. We worked it out, but it took time. Some Buyers might not be as patient. And some sellers might not issue refunds on the extra shipping.

This Auto-Pay feature is complicating how Buyers submit an offer. It's a terrible idea. I've been on eBay 17 years, and the previous method of submitting offers worked smoothly: the offer is 1. Rejected; 2. Considered then countered; 3. Accepted, then the Seller and Buyer work out payment and payment scheduling.

Auto-Pay Best Offer submissions also FORCE a buyer to IMMEDIATELY pay for an item, even if a seller doesn't require it. I give my buyers five days to pay. Some sellers give 2-3 days. I've found this PAYMENT WINDOW gives a Buyer less of a sense of urgency, so maybe they'll shop more. Auto-Pay overrides that, so a customer who needs that extra time to pay doesn't have it. Auto-Pay Best Offers are violating are own store payment terms.

We could be losing sales. Losing customers. Ebay is intent on complicating their platform. I don't know why, either. If you and I are losing sales, eBay is losing money.

Why are they doing this?  As a seller, I can tell you why.  I accept an offer from a buyer.  The buyer does not pay.  My item is no longer available to be sold and is just sitting in my orders, waiting for payment.  I have to wait 4 days before I can  cancel the transaction due to non-payment.  In that time, it could have sold at full price to someone who will actually pay.  It is a HUGE problem and I am glad to see they are trying to help sellers.

Why not make the item still available for purchase until paid?

I also find it ironic.  eBay makes one change for buyers and they are up in arms.  Meanwhile, sellers have changes made to their accounts and selling rules quarterly.  We have to adapt...why can't buyers?

I have very few seller protections:  immediate payment required, blocking buyers, and now instant payment on offers.  That's about it.  Doesn't even come close to the eBay money back guarantee that is skewed towards buyers.  It is the sellers that pay for that guarantee, not eBay.

Greed that's what it's all about. I'm about done. Sick of all the changes. I was quite surprised when I excepted a offer and immediate payment was taken out. I liked using offer, and always pay Friday. Now I'm not using it anymore. Thinking of deleting my account. To many other platforms to buy on elsewhere.

What’s bad is that eBay decides which credit card of mine to use! This must be new! But if you bud on an item, and win it, this doesn’t happen as of yet!

Re: Eliminate New Auto-Pay Requirement when Submitting Best Offers.

as most of us s are buyers as well as sellers we can see both sides of this. However I believe that offer winners should be given at least a 24 hours to complete the transaction as it used to be 3 days. I was so irritated when the money came out of my card that doesn’t give cash back which I would have chosen! So I felt violated. Not a right man!

Re: Eliminate New Auto-Pay Requirement when Submitting Best Offers.

I was not aware of this auto pay. I have a default CC for paypal payments. Instead of using my default option for purchases it took it straight from my already low bank account. I was not expecting these withdrawals from my checking account now I have to borrow from my credit line not to be overdrawn.  Been using eBay for 16 years and now I can no longer submit best offers.  If it would at least use the preferred paypal payment option I have set up would be no problem.  So why would they not use my default payment CC when still using paypal for payment? Makes no sense

20+ years buying on ebay, i WILL NOT autopay, sellers if you dont want to lose customers pay attention. this song and dance ebay and paypal do every couple of years is old and tired, this marketplace is no longer the goto market, overpriced, with to much seller overhead will send customers elsewhere

Re: Eliminate New Auto-Pay Requirement when Submitting Best Offers.

Why wasn't this an OPTIONAL button BUYERS could check to make their offers sweeter to the seller.  That way, the lure of AutoPay to the seller would be there for buyers willing to use it, BUT still give the buyer the flexibility and control they need?

Re: Eliminate New Auto-Pay Requirement when Submitting Best Offers.

This auto pay is ridiculous. I choose what payment method I am going to use after purchase. I could see auto payment if you do not pay with in a certain time. But the twice I have made a offer and it was accepted it did not use my choice of funding. The whole system is a absolute mess

Re: Eliminate New Auto-Pay Requirement when Submitting Best Offers.

I have been a buyer for 24 years.  Today an offer I made was accepted.  Ebay charged my card but did not notify me the offer was accepted for ten minutes!!! I am outraged and plan to send a complaint with the California division of Consumer Affairs and the State attorney.  In the meantime i have removed my card from my account and from now on will enter it when i make a purchase or contact the seller by message to make my offer.

Re: Eliminate New Auto-Pay Requirement when Submitting Best Offers.

I just got a message from a buyer with 5 paragraphs explaining that sellers were losing sales, and I am super confused why ebay didn't tell me as a seller this option got turned on. I'm sure not turning it off though, I love not having to think "is this really an offer or is it a seller trying to pull off a competitors item".
