Dear eBay, what's going on with listing "Views"?

Looks like another "improvement". My listing views have changed to display stats and as result I lost most of my views counts. Now I have listings with zero views and 1 watcher. Seeing statistics is nice but accurate views count is MUCH more important!

Dear eBay, what's going on with listing "Views"?

Although my views haven't changed (I have many items with 10,000, 16000, 20000 views) but word has it that they are going to just start using the past 30 days for views, watchers etc. It may just be a slow rollout.

Makes sense though, because in reality, I don't care how many looked at my thingy 3 years ago. Doesn't do me any good.

I just make a list by category, top to bottom write down the 'views'

I then look again in a week.

Those items that had high views but little sales, I put on sale.

Those items with low views, I may tweak the title a bit or?

views are extremely important for me. I personally don't care about 1 year old items but the same problem is happening with newly listed items.  First the terrible new "my account" interface with huge data update delays and now views...

This item for instance had 30+ views this morning and 1 watcher. Now shows only 3 views

Dear eBay, what's going on with listing "Views"?

The 30 you had were mostly bots- fake, not people: This is the fix (from Spring Seller Update)

More accurate listing view counts

We want you to have listing traffic data that shows as accurately as possible how many buyers have seen your listings. That’s why, in late April 2022, we’ll be updating how we count and report listing page views.

The current page view numbers on your listings count various types of traffic, including a significant amount of non-human traffic—one example is programs called “bots” that scan websites and now account for approximately 40% of internet traffic.* Learn more about non-human traffic and bots in the Listing Page Views FAQs tab.

Although this non-human traffic is currently counted as a “page view,” it doesn’t represent real shoppers or lead to sales, and recent analysis has shown how much it inflates your page view numbers.

As part of eBay’s continual efforts to bring you better data to run your business, we’re updating to a new way of counting page views that will better filter out non-human traffic and more accurately show views by potential buyers.

While the amount of non-human traffic on the internet is considerable, it also varies across categories and products. As a result, while most sellers will see a significant drop in page view numbers, the impact of filtering out more non-human traffic may vary. Importantly, the actual traffic from potential buyers to listings isn’t changing. We’re just updating what types of traffic we count as page views to more accurately show views by potential buyers.

Page view counts based on this approach have been available in the Seller Hub Traffic Report and Promoted Listings reports for some time. The changes outlined above will increase the consistency of how page views are counted and displayed across eBay.

Ha, I wondering when they announce a "bug on the system". it still doesn't explain how you can have item with 0 views and one watcher. If that is true then based on my last few month eBay is even in worst shape that I initially thought...

It is possible to watch an item without viewing the listing. It is also possible that the watcher viewed the item 31 days ago or longer and is not counted among views in the last thirty days.

Perhaps someone added the item to their Watch List directly from the search results without opening the listing. One watcher, no views.

I call Bot-**bleep**.

I also like the line "We believe that this change will arm you with the best data possible..." in the Why We Made This Change section.  Who's we?  The great ebay think tank?  Or the users that actually use this data?

I was just impacted by the new change.

Every morning for the past 7 years I'd record the "views" for each of my items on a spreadsheet.  Note my own trends, make adjustments, etc.

This morning, view counts are down 90-100% (not the 40% guestimated by the think tank folks).

I've got more to say, but I'm too frustrated.

7 years of spreadsheet data going down the drain.

Adapt and move on.  Resistance is futile.

Dear eBay, what's going on with listing "Views"?

I just found some 2-3 years old listings showing 0 views. The system is literally not working or most likely something went wrong during this upgrade. As IT person with many years of internet development experience I can 100% say something is wrong there unless the data is still populating and will be available soon...

I want to know who/what viewed my item on May 12th when the last one that I have in stock was sold on/shipped on May 9th.  OOS. In theory,  not searchable.

Not searchable just means the item will not turn up in a new search.

Anyone with the item already on a Watch List or with a direct link or who just knows the item number can still view the original item listing.

Perhaps a previous purchaser was checking Purchase History and wanted to verify something in the listing. Or someone found a link to the item via your feedback page.
