Customize on this page not "holding" change

velvet@ebay

On this page.........view other items from a listing page

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_ssn=dhbookds&store_name=dlhcollectibles&_dmd=2&_oac=1&_trksid=p2047...

I've used the customize option to change from gallery to list view.........  but that change doesn't "hold", on the next attempt it defaults back to gallery view............

I note they have made a change to show the store banner on this page, but somehow the customize feature for the list/gallery option got killed.  Looks like the options for picture size and the # of items per page still work properly........

Customize on this page not "holding" change

@wastingtime101 wrote:

I believe I know exactly what’s happening here velvet@ebay. Please bear with me as this is a bit long. I've done my best to outline things to make it easier to follow.

Before the new store changes there were 2 options:

1. View listings in general search.

With this method you could customize all aspects of search view as shown in some of the screenshots above. These preferences were saved to your profile and constant - no matter what browser or device you used, your preferences would override any default eBay search settings.

2. View listings within a seller’s store.

Within a seller’s store you could change sort order and between gallery/list display, but your preferences were not saved. Sellers were able to set a default sort order and set a default gallery or list view. The seller’s store settings would override any default eBay settings and any buyer’s preferences when you entered their store.

Recently a lot has changed about stores.

There are now 3 options to view a seller’s listings.

1. View listings in general search.

This is still possible through the seller’s profile and FB pages or through eBay advanced search by seller. When you view listings this way, your preferences for things such as gallery/list and sort order will continue to override any default eBay search settings.

2. View listings within a seller’s store.

The ability for sellers to set a default sort order and set a default gallery or list view for stores was revoked from the manage stores page. Now all stores default to best match sort and gallery view.

3. **NEW** View listings in general search with a seller’s store banner at the top. I’ll call it “store search” go forward in this discussion.

As of today there are 2 ways to access this store search view. One is from within the seller’s store when you scroll to the bottom of the store page and click “see all.” Two is brand new as @dhbookds discovered: from within a listing and clicking on see other items.

These are observations (and some apparent errors) with the NEW store search view.

The sort order is defaulting based on 2 criteria, both of which are outdated:

     1. The sort order that sellers set on the manage store page - the one that was removed as mentioned above.

     2. The display (gallery/list) that sellers set on the manage store page - the one that was removed as mentioned above.

It’s clear from my informal testing of viewing several different stores, including my own, that eBay is defaulting store search to a seller’s OLD/inaccessible store settings.

From here the question is what SHOULD be happening?

1. Should eBay be defaulting store search to both gallery and best match the same way stores are defaulted?

2. Should eBay be defaulting store search to a buyer’s customized preferences the same way general search is defaulted?

eBay needs to make this decision, then make changes. They should not leave the set up as-is because it’s based on store settings that are no longer accessible and will be different for every store - a very inconsistent shopping experience.

Users in this thread clearly would like option 2 over option 1. I have to agree with them. The buyer search customization settings are present within store search. Because of this, eBay should be defaulting to those settings.

This is different from the general store where those customization settings are not available. With new stores, the only thing buyers can change within a store view is sort order - they cannot even change gallery vs list.

This is very helpful @wastingtime101, thank you! I'll pass it on to our stores team. I appreciate you putting this together and if they have any additional questions, I'll follow-up here.

When a buyer does not have customized settings for their search preference then eBay should as a secondary choice be defaulting to the current stores view which is best match + gallery view.

This would offer the most consistent buying experience while taking the buyer's saved preferences into account.

Thanks velvet@ebay. I wanted to further expand/clarify one point that I wrote towards the end of my post. Please see above for my revised text. Sorry I didn't catch that before I posted - it's just in re-reading what I wrote that I noticed it had a glaring need for some clarification.

I really like this new store search in concept because it's the same function as general search with the same filter options, but it includes store branding for increased store visibility.

The problem is with the execution and display of sort order and gallery/list not taking a buyer's customized settings into account. If eBay can fix that, I think this is a great change for store owners.

Hey velvet@ebay. Would you mind asking the Stores team for an update on this? Are they able to provide any information about upcoming changes to fix the issues discussed in this thread?

Thanks velvet@ebay. Perhaps the Stores guy that's going to be on next week's chat can come prepared with some info on this?

FYI @dhbookds.

Hi @wastingtime101 and @dhbookds! Someone from our stores team is asking if it's ok for them to contact either of you directly? If so, they would be emailing you. If your registered email addresses on file are good to go, I'll forward them on with your ok to do so. Thanks!

Hi velvet@ebay. I have not heard from the Stores team about this yet.

In addition, Chuck that participated on the June 8 chat about stores asked me to follow up via PM on some tech issues, etc which I did, but never received a reply. I gave it 2 weeks because I know you're all busy (as am I), but at this point I would appreciate if you could remind Chuck/Stores team about these things.

Hi @wastingtime101! I'll send a gentle heads up to Chuck in case he hasn't been in to check on private messages recently. We appreciate your willingness to work with our stores team though, I know getting info from members like you helps to get improvements and fixes pushed through.

Just an FYI:

There has been a slight change within the past few weeks @dhbookds and velvet@ebay.

Point 3 above regarding "store search" view - instead of defaulting to best match & gallery this now defaults to the buyer's sort preference (best match, newly listed, etc), however the display still defaults to gallery even if the buyer has list view as their preference.

I haven't heard from the Stores team yet as the Stores contact has been out of office, but I still hope to discuss this and other Store display & functionality with them in August.

Thanks for the update @wastingtime101

I'm still experiencing the lack of "stickiness" to the customize option, just in general search (not stores)...........on the gallery versus list option.......  have to recustomize about every 3/4 days......     Am sure correction to that is way down a list (if even on one)........but glad to know there was/is some response to the store issues.
