Customer Shipping Defaults to USPS Media Mail when no such service has not been offered

Customer shipping sometimes defaults to USPS Media Mail even though we have removed this shipping service from all our product listings. After a lengthy discussion with EBay Help, I was informed that USPS has limited the number of 1st Class packages it allows to be sent on any given day. When the limit has been reached, USPS 1st Class gets becomes unavailable as a shipping option and defaults to Media Mail. So if a customer has selected and paid for USPS 1st Class and USPS has determined their limit has been exceeded, 1st Class will appear as grayed out when you go to print a shipping label and Media Mail will be selected at a fraction of the shipping price. Since Media Mail is only allowed for books and educational materials, if you try to ship anything with a Media Mail shipping label, it will get returned to sender. The "fix" is to print these labels at the Post Office, or remove 1st Class as a shipping option.

Personally, I think that's a bunch of bull..........and I would certainly call Ebay back and ask another CS about it.

I've never heard of or seen such a situation. I'd just wait a bit and try to ship again. Worst case I'd print a label at paypal and enter the tracking on ebay though it would cost a tiny bit more.

Same thing happens to me. You can use pirateship.com to buy your labels instead. Its free and they offer an auto import of ebay orders and automatically update the tracking info instantly to your shipped ebay items. When using pirateship it never goes to media mail for me (since media mail is NOT one of my shipping options and I do not sell or ship books/dvds ect). I am so happy i found out about www.pirateship.com

Re: Customer Shipping Defaults to USPS Media Mail when no such service has not been offered

I have started having this issue. I go to ship my orders and may print 10 to 20 labels at a time per day. I ship all of my items first class. Lately some of the labels are defaulting to media mail. The first few times it happened I did not notice. When I printed the labels however in the top left corner I noticed on some on the labels there is an X rather than a F (for first class). I had to go and void these labels and re-purchase. Otherwise if I don't catch it my items do not qualify for media mail and would be returned. It is really inconvenient to have one more item to double check everyday. Anyone know why this is suddenly happening?

Re: Customer Shipping Defaults to USPS Media Mail when no such service has not been offered

This just happened to me. I am not an experienced seller but this really annoys me. I listed some very inexpensive items on eBay and made sure I measured and weighed the packages before listing. With the quoted price on shipping, I would still make a few $$'s even at the low price I offered. When two items sold, I tried to print a shipping label, but it defaulted to media mail. Not wanting problems I canceled the labels, took the items to the post office, and shipped for twice the amount eBay quoted. By the time I pay final value fees on shipping I may be in the red.
