Counterfeit super NES and NES Classics

Something needs to be done about the counterfeit problem on eBay dealing with Super Nintendo classic editions and Nintendo Classic editions. It is absolutely polluted with fakes and when you report the listings, the AI will not flag them. 90% of the listings have pictures of the counterfeit items with ALL of the signs of being a fake yet nothing gets done about it. eBay needs to make sellers do an authentication process if people are selling these items on here. I’ve been cheated numerous times trying to find an authentic console, and a lot of my friends have to. When I browse the listings I see it just completely polluted with fakes. It’s insane. This is def a technical failure on eBay’s part. I can’t imagine the amount of returns and complaints eBay receives dealing with these. Does anyone have an idea of how to contact someone at eBay to make this happen??

Re: Counterfeit super NES and NES Classics

If counterfeits are easy to spot, they are also easy to avoid buying. But reporting such counterfeit listings to eBay may not be very effective if the folks programming the AI or making the determination do not know what to look for or how to distinguish counterfeits from real items in each possible category. Nor can eBay simply accept all reports at face value when some may be submitted by competing sellers with an axe to grind.

If counterfeits are hard to spot -- or if sellers are using pictures of real items but are actually delivering counterfeits -- then buyers can choose to avoid buying from sellers that lack a reputation worth protecting, particularly when such sellers are offering deals that are obviously too good to be true. Reporting a listing that advertises an actual item and that includes a real picture of a genuine item is not very effective because the listing by itself does not violate any policy. The fact that seller may intend to ship a fake item cannot be proven to eBay in advance just by looking at the listing.

The threshold at which buyers can simply choose to avoid making a purchase from a suspicious listing will always be much lower than the threshold eBay uses to take disciplinary action against a seller, since eBay has to at least try to avoid punishing innocent sellers, while buyers can still choose not buy based only on a "gut feeling" without violating the seller's rights.

Re: Counterfeit super NES and NES Classics

Yeah I just think items that are regularly counterfeited should go through the authentication process like collectibles, shoes, etc. majority of the people buying these consoles are parents for gifts and don’t even realize they’ve been cheated untill they give the gift and the receiver knows what to look for. It’s sad

Re: Counterfeit super NES and NES Classics

I deal in video games all the time and I understand the issue you are finding. Unfortunately all you can do is report the seller. You do get responses and follow ups messages about the case you reported. Ebay agents can't recognize fakes as video game experts can. They can only go by the listing itself. This is not considered a technical issue with the site as far as glitch. This is a listing issue. Contacting Ebay directly through chat box about this issue would be a waste of your time cause nothing will be done. I once reported a $15,000 fake video game auction and the agent just said "I will submit the report however he found no evidence based on listing.

The only way to get eBay's attention is for the rights holder to file infringement notices. There is little point in you contacted eBay, it's Nintendo that needs to take action.

Re: Counterfeit super NES and NES Classics

It is unlikely that Ebay has a person who knows how to train their AI to detect counterfeit video games.

Requiring authentication would raise the cost of selling video games above what the market would bear.

This will continue to be a problem whose solution will be the market moving to online video games.

Most DVDs, real or counterfeit are already worthless and no longer a significant problem.

You gaming experts can predict when this problem will be infinitesimal. I can honestly say it does not affect me in the slightest,
