1.) does NOT matter where YOU Live; it matters where the buyer lives (as far as taxes charged)
2.) The 'veteran' break is up to
a.) each state
b.) must go to Military Base (otherwise, how would ANYONE know it's 'military'?? (ps...someone named Cpt. Smith does NOT count)
3.) There is NO state that is 14%, but some states (like Calif) charge an 'additional' fee for certain Electronics, Tires etc. ON TOP of Sales Tax.

That is nonsense. You may be tax exempt at the PX but the rest of the world is a different story.

Why "even California?"

Couldn't check your purchases on what you bought other than its mainly stamps.
But the state the buyer lives in and the state the seller lives in is how taxes are founded.
Living on a base is a little different than buying off the base...have to pay taxes off the base.
"I barely live in any state"....if you live more than 6 months in a state or have an address for mail of a state you have to pay end of year taxes...especially state...I had two states billing me for year end taxes the same year.
I should know...I lived on ships for a few years...and had to fight to dispute state taxes at end of the years.
And if you are buying from other countries the taxes will be different.

Since when does Military not pay sales tax?
01-18-2024 05:38 PM
The IRS has nothing to do with sales tax.
I am a veteran. I pay sales tax on items that I purchase in any state that has sales tax.
No matter where I travel, being a veteran does not exempt me from paying sales tax on items that I purchase.

there are sales tax exemptions in California for military.

Out-of-state purchases may not qualify for the sales tax exemption in California, as the exemption typically applies to purchases made within the state.
