Cant get rid of eBay message on my active page screen

Hi - anyone else having the same problem? a message comes up when  click on my active selling page that says - My ebay is getting easier and simpler to use etc - but it wont let me click ok understood or the cross in the corner and wont clear off the page - it is driving me mad - any suggestions please!

Are you using Safari?

If you can, try using Chrome. Sorry that's not much help, but I'm not a seller or a Mac user, so I have not actually encountered this problem first hand.

yes - Safari. Tried it with Chrome and that did not work either and the dreaded notice is still there!! I just cant think of what else to do......  thank you anyway!

One possible thing you could try is installing Adblock in Chrome and then using "block an ad on this page" to see if you can eliminate the element that is covering your information.

Such a pain! and yes - that is the one! on my active selling page.  I can see on the other links you have sent but then when I go to look at the active pages that is where the problem occurs.

i will have a look at your other suggestion - thank you for your time! and I am glad I dont seem to be the only person with the problem - but it is still highly annoying!  thanks Nikkki

I was finally able to get it to appear by opening a fresh cookie profile in FF31, logging in with a buyer ID, and loading  https://www.ebay.com/mys/active?MyEbayBeta&CurrentPage=MyeBayNextSelling
which immediately popped up the grayed out selling screen with a big while modal dialog on top.

(I didn't try dismissing it since I wanted to destroy it myself).

I think the key to getting it to appear is using a fresh account - it looks like eBay finally might have gotten it right this one time and once an account sees it and clicks through it doesn't appear again. Maybe.

If that is the case, it may be cookie based, but I'm not going to test that yet as  I don't want to lose access to the modal dialog by clicking through if it isn't cookie based and goes away permanently before all questions about getting rid of it are resolved. (IF it is a cookie thing, MIGHT be possible to get rid of it with a cookie if that cookie isn't tailored to a specific account and is generic. Although for others to use that approach installation of cookie tools would probably be required..... 🙂

This Adblock Plus Rule takes care of it:

That rule is probably specific enough that it won't wipe out other wanted dialogs.

(which can happen with other annoyances where eBay didn't use such detailed element class and ID attributes - the others usually have no attributes to filter on)

For testing or playing around, the rule can be applied in the following form manually using the built in FireFox Web Developer Style Editor by just opening the style editor (Shift-F7 in FF31 unknown in others) while the dialog is blocking the page, and typing the following into a blank space after any of the displayed CSS rulesets there:

div.welcome-screen-modal-wrapper.me-dialog.dialog.dialog--mask-fade{display:none !important;}

(don't need the domain modifier since we are applying it to the target page, and the web developer console doesn't respect those modifiers anyway - I don't think - they are for Adblock Plus and Stylish syntaxes)

As soon as it is typed or pasted in it applies and the modal dialog goes away. Then just close Style editor.

(note: if the page is reloaded the dialog will come back as the rule was just tacked into one of eBay's stylesheets in the browser, and those refresh on a reload. That is why persistent rule engines like Adblock Plus or Stylish are needed to automate these CSS manipulations. In Firefox, the rule COULD be added to the Firefox usercontent.css file to be persistent without any further interaction being needed

That rule would be (and is also the Stylish/Stylus syntax):

So if I understand correctly, for folks who are unable to dismiss that message, the easiest way to get rid of it is to install Adblock Plus for Safari (or Chrome), which will put a red "ABP" icon on the browser address bar. Selecting that icon should give you a dropdown; choose "Options", then "Advanced", scroll down to "Create and Edit your Filter List", paste the Adblock Plus rule from berserkerplanet's message into the "My filter list" box, and hit "enter" (I think).

I am on a PC, so I can't actually go through the steps on Safari -- I'm basing this on the Firefox version, so if someone with a selling account who is on a mac could verify whether these steps are accurate or not, and whether they solve the problem, that would be a big help.

Just so there is no misunderstanding: I am using XP on a PC. No ideas about Safari or Mac OS, nor was this tested anywhere but in FF31 where I worked it out. I tossed it out there for others to test, debug, and use if workable.

Your procedure sounds about right, but totally different than my version's.

For my old Adblock Plus v2.6.13 in FF31, I would:
-right click on the red ABP icon in the bottom status bar (or top toolbar if I had that visible)
-choose "Filter Preferences"
-click the "Add Filter" button in that window
-type or paste the one line rule I posted above in the filter field, and hit enter.


Sounds like you can walk the others through this. (I'm always available for clarifications or arcane details as needed - just not much good at explaining the basics 🙂


Actually, a selling account isn't required - my test with my buyer account showed that the page loads anyway.

I have exactly the same problem, and it's just reminded me why I haven't been selling on eBay for a few weeks! Absolutely can't get rid of it! Glad it's not just me

Either use the rule I posted with an adblocker, or use another browser where you can click through it and get it to go away.

I believe the flag for whether or not you viewed the dialog and clicked "ok got it" is an account related parameter and not something stored locally in a particular browser via cookies, which means if you can get rid of it once it will stay gone in all browsers.

Another alternative I outlined above is to manually dismiss it each time it appears using the web developer console to enter the CSS rule manually.

Yet another way to temporarily disappear it is to use an addon like Nuke Anything Enhanced in Firefox (I use an old version in old versions of Firefox and that addon probably isn't available in newer FF versions or other browsers, but there must be similar alternatives.) That works by right clicking on the dialog and choosing "remove this object" (sometimes takes up to a half dozen repetitions if you don't right click in the right place.)

Along those same lines, you can also temporarily dismiss the dialog using web developer in inspect mode:
right click on the dialog, choose "inspect element", navigate up to the
<div class="welcome-screen-modal-wrapper me-dialog dialog dialog--mask-fade">
element, right click on it, and choose "delete element". Close web developer and do your business.
