Trying to list some shorts for my wife. Category - Clothing, Shoes & Accessories > Men > Men's Clothing > Shorts.
Anyone know the trick for adding the size of shorts to a variation listing? Pretty important attribute for a pair of shorts, yet ebay refuses to let me add it even though they suggest it. Instead, they show an option to add a single size in the main listing. Even more strange is 'Size' is not a pre-defined selection. Closest thing to it is 'Waist Circumference' but that is not the same thing.
I can add "Size." with a period but I'm afraid this will get lost in search and ebay still asks for a size in the main listing. I can put 'variable' there but that doesn't solve the search problem.
This glitch or whatever it is has been going on for over a year. I don't suspect it will ever be fixed so am looking for a workaround where when a buyer selects size in search, this item will show up.

Go back to the main listing page and see if you have entered anything into the size field ... if you do that, it excludes the "size" option from the variations.

This exactly- eBay will auto-populate some IS based on your title so if they filled in size (or if you did) then you won't be able to add it as an attribute. Clear the size field then go back into the attributes and it should appear in the list for you to choose from.
If no size is filled in then make sure you're starting a new listing from scratch instead of using sell similar. Sell similar can sometimes cause issues when creating variation listings.

New listing was started from scratch and the size field was not auto populated and was always empty. I've been on ebay since 1998 and know my way around. Unless I'm missing something, this is a glitch.
Additionally, if 'size' was already a pre-defined option, why would ebay suggest adding size when you add your own attribute then claim it's not valid. That alone is a programming screw up.

I rarely do variation listings so perhaps I’m missing something but when I attempted to do a listing in that same category and then clicked on create variations, the first option to come up was size and size type. You don’t see a list of sizes? I’m using Safari on an iPad but not using the app.
Edit... after I set up the category, the first thing I did was click on create variations, I didn’t enter any info in the listing form so perhaps that makes a difference?

Your screenshot shows only the second half of the variation attributes. When you scroll up is Size definitely not there? That error message will appear if you try to add an attribute that's already on the list and we all miss things sometimes.
If that doesn't solve your problem then do the standard troubleshooting if you haven't already- in other words, try again tomorrow and clear your browser history/cache.
It could have been a temporary glitch because I tested this when I first saw your post and again just now but wasn't able to duplicate the issue.

Good day,
I'm currently having this issue with listing jackets. Were you able to find a resolution?
