I am a longtime member and never added a phone number. Now I'm trying to sell and have to give a phone number for verification. But there is no way to add one. If I go into Account Settings, there is no box for phone number under Personal Information or Addresses. I assume it's because my account is so old. According to Google this is a common problem. How do I solve it?

You need to add the phone number to your registration address. Click on Edit next to Registration address, and the box for phone number is there.
You should add a mobile number, they want to be able to send a verification code by text.

I appreciate the suggestion, but in my Registration address there is no box for phone number.
If I clink the link for "Registration address, email, and phone number" the next screen will list Username, Account type, Contact info, and Personal Info. Clicking edit for any of those does not bring up a box for phone number.
I know I sound like I can't follow simple instructions, but you'll have to trust me. 😀

The phone number should be under Contact Info -- at least it is in my account.
Are you using a desktop browser and starting here?

If that does not work, try using the eBay app to change your phone number in the Settings.

My instructions should have taken you to the same page as @eburtonlab's link does. It should look like this:
(Your registration address would be right below this.)

Thanks for helping me explain this better. For my Contact Info, I just have a line for email, no line for phone. I suspect it's because my account is so old that it wasn't formatted for a phone number or something. I'll try talking an ebay agent. Wish me luck!
