Did you mean:

eBay not using PayPal anymore?

I got a message from eBay saying to update my account details.

"It’s now simpler to get paid on eBay

Getting paid has changed: Fees and expenses will be deducted before you get paid out and the remainder of your earnings will go directly to your bank account, not your PayPal account. Get set up in a few easy steps."

I primarily just tend to leave all the money I receive in my PayPal, so I wanted to ask for clarification: does this mean sellers can no longer use PayPal as a means of payment? We have to store the money in a bank account now?

I also saw something saying eBay raised their fees. Is that also true?

Thanks for clarifying.

That is a site's opinion of what Ebay has done, not necessarily a fact.

Ebay did NOT stop working with PP last year.  So that is completely incorrect.

Like contracts before it, they all have a term and when it gets close to renewal time both parties have the option of renewing it.  This has happened for years between Ebay and PP.  There hasn't been just one contract from the beginning there have been several along the way.

The current contract like others before it insures that Ebay members will have access to use PP on the site.  Buyers will see no changes in how they use PP on this site.  It is unlikely as 2023 approaches that Ebay would not renew this contract as there are too many buyers that prefer to use PP.

Now sellers, we are in a different boat.  By the end of this year most if not all of the sellers should be transitioned to MP.

Re: eBay not using PayPal anymore?

An ultimatum ( Latin for last one) is not a choice but a conditional demand with a threat which, if not met, leads to the consequences of the threat. On the other hand, a choice is an option without a threat and an opportunity to choose or select something voluntarily.

It is an ultimatum because to remain selling on Ebay you must sign up for MP once they notify you it is your time to enter.  It is a choice because you can choose to abide by the ultimatum or not.  And if not, you will stop selling on Ebay.

Your definition of "choice" is different than that of the dictionary.  "an act of selecting or making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities."

Re: eBay not using PayPal anymore?

So far, I have found contentment on a different "marketplace" platform (its name rhymes with lacelook). Super clear, easy, efficient, and one charge, only = "selling fee" of 5%.

Say so long for doing us wrong, ebay!!!

Re: eBay not using PayPal anymore?

I’m agreeing with you.

it’s sad. I’ve been selling on eBay 20 years.
I don’t want my bank account linked.
I also like the immediate payment, but with the new method payment will take 3-7 days to get.  Well I’m not shipping until I see the money.
I don’t know why there’s a delay in getting paid, but unfortunately they already locked my account because I won’t give them my bank account...so goodbye ebay

That's right, they're not giving you a choice; that should have been obvious since they started telling us about MP more than a year ago. And LOL at "ebay is trying to kill PayPal"; PayPal is worth about 7 times what eBay is worth.

Re: eBay not using PayPal anymore?

I read somewhere that I'm supposed to ship my item because it's "safe". EVEN BEFORE my payment cleared into my bank account. I just sold something and the lady paid $40. I don't see it anywhere in my palpal or bank account. WHY would I ship an item BEFORE I receive my money? I will lose customers if I don't I would think. It said it could take up to 14 days???? I can't have my customers waiting 14 days for a payment to clear before shipping. I'm not liking this at all 😞

Can't even contact Ebay because they are swamped with calls.

You would ship before the money hits your bank account because your buyer has paid you. What would you have done if PayPal had placed a 21-day hold on a payment? Tell your buyer to wait 3 weeks?

Re: eBay not using PayPal anymore?

Interesting that the original topic thread started by ebay, "Infographic: How Payments Work on Managed Payments," appears to be closed, with the most recent post being on 1/26, and at the end of page 10, it says: "Sorry, either you cannot reply to this topic, or you have not verified your email." Well, I've been a member since June 1999, receiving emails and obviously signed in, including going through the extra security step of, "How many bicycles riding across this bridge next to a fire hydrant do you see?" so it would appear they themselves closed that thread. Odd it has that rather accusatory-sounding personal message and doesn't simply say, "This thread is closed to further posts."

Joining the overwhelming chorus, so far, I am not happy with this new system at all. With PayPal, I would get a notice from ebay that I'd sold an item, and at the same time, another email from PayPal telling me I had money. I'd go to PayPal, use them to print out my mailing label, which I prefer as on the same page it also printed out a seller receipt with all the mailing info including tracking number you would separate and keep for your records. When I used ebay's mailing system a few days back for the first time, it printed out the mailing label on half of the page, and the other half was blank. Not real helpful. More importantly, after printing out the mailing label, I could then immediately click on "Transfer to bank account" and PayPal would  transfer my funds within one business day.

This past Monday Feb. 1st, I had two separate sales early in the morning (one at 2:05 AM). Even though I selected daily payments,  just today, Thurs. Feb. 4 I received an e-mail from ebay with the headling, Your Payment Is On the Way" and stating, "We sent your payout of $76.06 on Feb 04, 2021 to your bank account ending in XXXX. It will take 3-4 business days to reach your bank account." 3-4 days? Today's Thursday; that means it could be Tuesday Feb. 8th before I get my payments for two transactions that occurred eight days earlier on the 1st. How is this considered a "daily payout?" when they're just today informing me they are in the process of transferring my money three days after the sales took place?" They get payments instantly, and we actually receive the payment as much as a week or more later?

I have always shipped within two business days, so now I either have to lengthen the shipping time to either 5 or 10 days — their options, nothing in between — or ship within two days as I always have but before I've actually received the payments in my account. And it occurred to me, as I'm sure it has to others: can you imagine how much interest ebay is making by receiving payments from our customers instantly ... and then sitting on the money for up to a week before they transfer it to our bank accounts?

They're not going to change this back, so all the complaints in the world won't make a difference. Does anyone really expect we'll get a message stating, "We listened to what our sellers told us, and we heard you loud and clear: you do not like the Managed Payments system, so we are going to give you back the option of getting directly from PayPal as you did before." Riiiight. Anyone remember New Coke?

Ebay isn't trying to "kill" PP.  Ebay owns stock in PP and that would be financially harmful to Ebay to do such a thing.

Ebay use to own PP.  In 2015 the companies split.  A 5 year contract was born.  In that contract it restricted Ebay from moving too far towards their own money processing system and it restricted PP from pursuing certain businesses to offer PP.  That contracted ended last June.  Now both companies are free to do as they please.  PP will be just fine without the sellers on Ebay.  PP still has buyers as they can continue to use PP.  PP isn't going anywhere and they are financially healthy.

@rescuethriftshop

When a buyer issues a payment, at that time MP or PP pings the funding source for the payment to make sure that the payment will be approved. The buyer, once they make their payment has no ability to cancel, adjust or otherwise change or stop the payment in MP or PP. Buyer's have never had that ability. So once the payment is made MP takes 1-2 days to actually get the money moved from the funding source to your MP account. Then it moves to Available for transfer. It will transfer on the next Business day if you are on Daily deposits or on Tuesdays if you are on Weekly deposits.

Once the transfer is released into the ACH banking system, the banks are in control of the transfer, not MP. This process may take 1-4 days for the money to arrive at your bank. Smaller more local banks may take longer than a larger more main stream bank.

I'm well aware of all of that. Why was it necessary to tag me when I was simply ridiculing the response I quoted?
