I got a message from eBay saying to update my account details.
"It’s now simpler to get paid on eBay
Getting paid has changed: Fees and expenses will be deducted before you get paid out and the remainder of your earnings will go directly to your bank account, not your PayPal account. Get set up in a few easy steps."
I primarily just tend to leave all the money I receive in my PayPal, so I wanted to ask for clarification: does this mean sellers can no longer use PayPal as a means of payment? We have to store the money in a bank account now?
I also saw something saying eBay raised their fees. Is that also true?
Thanks for clarifying.

I think this move is enough to make me say goodbye to selling on eBay. The message I received makes it sound as though you won't have to pay the Paypal fees anymore but your reply says that the ebay will charge the Paypal fees. I've had enough of ebay's **bleep**. They steal a fee on shipping so you have to make your shipping price high to cover what ebay steals plus the cost of your shipping supplies. Now they want to get their hands into our bank accounts so they can place holds and dictate how everything is handled. Combine that with the USPS taking weeks and months to delivers items and I think it's become a waste of time.

I received that email today. It is a phishing email. When I look at the sender's email it is not a legit Ebay email.

It’s a real email. Check your eBay messages. You will have to switch over to MP by the deadline given in the invitation.

MP is NOT charging PP fees. PP is no longer doing the money processing once you enter MP, so they no longer get the money processing fees. But now since MP is doing the money processing, they are getting paid to do that function. They have the right to be paid for services rendered just like anyone else.
In MP if there is a reason your account goes into a negative balance due to refunding a buyer, you have the option of having a back up funding source on the account, like a CC. If you do that, MP will not look to your bank account to take care of the refund. Oh and MP waits up to 14 days to see if your sales will cover the negative balance before going to your back up funding source or your bank account.

When using PayPal when i buyer purchased an item I would have the money available to me right away. Now I am going to have to wait 3-4 days, depending on my banking institution? This is crazy!! This was the dumest thing Ebay has done. They are going to lose my business also, as I a going to move to Marketplace and Craiglist.
Ebay, you are losing my selling and buying, and for what, some fees.....??

I can’t agree more, I always liked using PayPal despite fees as it was a solid middle man. I used to love selling on eBay until a recent sale where the seller kept my graphics card and money. Ebay did nothing for me, PayPal had me report him to local police in his state and Internet crimes division of fbi. The item worked beautifully even had video evidence of it working and had it packaged well and he was trying to use the card on a 1.0 slot which I clearly stated it did not work well with 1.0 or 2.0 slots due to amds drivers, and clearly stated no returns all sales final so he deputed it eBay took the money and I proceeded to contacting police in his local area and eventually got my item back and he got jail time but it should have never went that far.
Now with managed payments you have to wait for money to clear bank could be 4-7 days and I’m not shipping an item without some type of hold on funds, and having disputes on your bank account is going to look bad to creditors. Even if you open a new account strictly for eBay still looks bad. So eBay has been fun 12 strong years for me it served its purpose to offset computer upgrade costs by selling older parts but I’ll just hold on to my parts going forward and update less, no safe place to sell anymore.
😞 it’s sad really, but it is what it is.

I agree, I am not happy about inputting my bank details onto any site Paypal doesn't hold my bank account details - I input them if and when I need to. Not happy

I have an item sold and paid for yesterday. I would be posting tomorrow but the payment is 'awaiting process' for me to input my bank details - don't think so. If buyer has paid via paypal I would like the payment now please. Not happy and worked with ebay for over 15 years

Then how to do expect to be paid if you are in MP?

Just shut my active auctions down. This change is not seller friendly. Nothing about eBay is seller friendly, never has been. Final straw for me. Ciao

It appears that Ebay is eliminating Paypal, keeping that fee and becoming a payment processor/banker. They are demanding the same information as any other payment processor. Sellers should be able to choose their own payment processor.
"Everyone has options." That's just it - there is no option. It's give your SSN and banking details to yet another big tech company. Or else. You have no idea (or assurances from ebay) that your info will be kept private and protected. Or, that it will not be used to fatten their coffers like the other big tech companies selling what they know about you.
Maybe Ebay hasn't been hacked yet because there is no financial gain/ point in doing so. But, as a banker, they will be much more vulnerable to hacking or employee misdeeds than before. It is just a matter of time until they are breached like so many other stores and businesses.
IMHO, it should be optional for sellers to participate. Sellers who want it can sign up. Sellers who do not can continue to do business on ebay as usual. A little sensitivity here would go a long way.

I agree with many of the above opinions:
I DON'T WANT the new eBay "MP" payment method.
For security reasons, I don't want to give this info to eBay:
Bank account info.
SS number
Picture of my drivers license.
I want to simply stay with using Paypal. How can I do that?
