Forcing you to give your checking account with routing number and Social Security number . I am not a big seller I just sold a few things I never used that I had then eBay locked my account AFTER selling some stuff saying I had to update my account. I refused to give my private information. I called eBay and of course I was tossed around from one person to another. I asked them why PayPal doesn’t ask you that kind of private information they allow you to use your bank card like a credit card and do two small deposits with one withdrawal to verify. If you are a business they only require your EIN number. Never do they ask you for your private information. Brittany from eBay the last woman I was talking to said well PayPal is a Financial company and a eBay is a market place. Ok so that supposed to make me feel comfortable giving Them my private information? That is supposed to tell me it’s Secure to do so? I had to ship the stuff I sold to the people because I’m not a jerk but eBay won’t give me my money. I told Britney I was deleting my account she sent me the link. Once I know the people received what they purchased ( because I’m honest) and want to make sure they got it even though it cost me money. I WAS a victim of fraud twice. My SS# was stolen and it ended up freezing my tax returns and the second time I had my bank account drained. I was told by the police to NEVER give your SS # out other than in person and never give your routing # out unless it’s in person or a government site which have very high security and Only if you need to exp: direct deposit tax return. I have never given it out since. There is NO good reason eBay needs that. They have documentation they took the sales tax out. Personally I think anyone that got ripped off by eBay and they will not give them their money back need to get together and sue eBay.

There's nothing more to add, or take away from this. It's just wrong. So eBay (or Adyen, if it's them) should cease requesting that information. Regardless of whether or not other options exist.
It is wrong for you, I respect that. It wouldn't be anything I would recommend that is for sure. But you nor I have the right to make that decision for anyone else, which is why it is an option.

Nope, your earlier posts said nothing about yearly reports that banks need to issue for things like interest income. That was just in your recent post in response to me asking your for more information via a link to the rule/law that requires such information to be reported by banks.
"
"
The bank is required by law to report all of your financial activity through them to the IRS. Having a bank account tied to your (eBay) account ensures that the money you, and eBay funnel through that account is accounted for, and the IRS sees it.
"
Yes. I was forced to reiterate. Because you chose to take exception to that statement. Which is still, regardless of your choice to believe it, true.
Read your annual, or quarterly bank statements. As appropriate to your taxable time frame.
I don't care how many wikipedia, or other web related links you choose to post. The facts are delivered to everyone' mailbox by the US postal services. We can all read them ourselves. The web is FULL of falsehoods, and misinformation. Your bank tax statements are not.

WRONG.
It is ALWAYS right to speak out, when you see that someone is being wronged.

You need to learn what the MP program is and that will answer your question. MP has been around for over 3 years now. It is Ebay is now ready to bring it sitewide and will by the end of the year. They are onboarding a group of sellers each month until all sellers are in MP.
But do some research. You can revisit the 2021 Spring Seller Update for info on MP as well as the policy pages. It is important to learn about the program since it will be handling your money.

Everything they've been doing on Ebay makes me want to sell less and less on there, MP program and the direct bank account access link comes down to one thing only : government access to our sales records for tax purposes.

What "government access to our sales records"? Please explain.

ebay was hacked. it will happen again. it doesn't matter if i have a good safe with my jewelry in it if the bad guys have my safe. i still would be worried even though use mam98031 claims it is a super duper safe. criminals have creative ways of getting value out of that information. in fact now days a single computer network can brute force any password hash with less than 12 char in less than 2 months and in effect get your password. the only issues is if the information is worth a persons time, and if the security of a service has any api that has a security flaw.
i repeat they have been hacked. hashing information was stolen. the management has made sign up default option to get your bank login info. they do not need this information, this information is never intended to be shared with anyone. the fact that ebay even asks for it is creepy. the fact that it is the default option is beyond belief. we can keep going round and round in circles.

Let us visit some actual FACTS. I did NOT say Ebay was not hacked. In fact I said the opposite and in the posting you are responding to I gave you some facts about that hack that happened in March of 2014.
You will also find NO post of mine where I said it was "super duper safe". You want to put your spin on what I've said and present it as if it were something I said, which I did not. There is no need to do this and I'm unsure why you feel compelled to do so.
So your point is what exactly? That websites are at risk for being hacked? Yes you are absolutely right. Each and every one of them, without exception. That Ebay got hacked? Yes they did ONCE in March of 2014, however NO financial data on ANY member was lost. The hackers were unable to break Ebay's encryption codes and therefore the hackers never reached that information. What I stated before that you apparently took great exception to is that the FACT the hackers were unable to break Ebay's encryption is a VERY GOOD thing. The security held up to the attack. They protected our information. Now you may not like these FACTS, however that doesn't change them.

https://www.foxnews.com/tech/ebay-asks-users-to-change-passwords-after-cyberattack
ALL internet sites are always at risk for hacking. No site is immune to it. There is always a risk. So whatever site you may decide to sell on, there is always a risk involved. That is the simple truth.
Another FACT "the management has made sign up default option to get your bank login info..." This is an OPTION not a requirement. So if you don't want them to have that info, simply don't give it to them and do the other option on the screen.

the main issue is the default setting of ebay getting log in info to a bank account. ebay is by default allowing this information into ebay systems. ebay systems are vulnerable like any other system because of human error, or unknown events. we have been around this point several times over several months.
ebay has no reason to have this information. they can have a routing id, and a checking account number and verify that way. i'm raising concern about the fact that even though ebay tries its best to have world class protections it failed at least once. we have no idea about what the hackers did with the information they got from ebay, we don't know what they will do when they hack it again but knowing the data also includes bank login id's and passwords they will put more resources into cracking it. i think that ebay should 1) be upfront about risks, and
2) make default option routing and checking verification like most everyone else on planet earth.
people make optional settings all the time, but behaviorally engineer choices, for example how easy is it to find 1$ menu items on mcdonald's menu's sure it is optional but it is easier to get a bigmac..... saying one thing, and designing system to do another.... welcome to corporate ebay....
again the issue is that they do not need this information, and they have it set to defaults , so unless you read a lot of **bleep** and do menu choices in a specific way it wont let you do checking and routing, it goes back to default option of bank login info.
originally i was just adding to this conversation as i could not believe ebay needed this info.
but now i believe people need awareness that ebay is doing this on purpose, and that they do have a choice to use routing and checking but more steps are required from ebay system.

It isn't a "default" setting. I does appear first but is not the only option. Something has to be first on any screen and that is all this is. This one is first on that screen. But even if a seller uses that function, it is so easy to put your mind to rest, just go and change your banking login and password. Extra step, sure, but it can put your mind at ease.
We haven't been "around" the point of potential dangers involved with online transactions or information. We actually agree that we must be cautious and ever watchful, you just seem to want to spin what I've said to mean something else, but in reality we actually agree on this point.
It is ALWAYS in anyone's best interest to be cautious and review ALL information presented when options are available so that you can select the best option for yourself. Ebay shouldn't be held responsible if we don't do this. This is our job in looking out for ourselves.
"i'm raising concern about the fact that even though ebay tries its best to have world class protections it failed at least once." That is a misrepresentation of what happened. I provided you links to several different news outlets reporting so that you can choose which one you trust more than another, if that is of importance. Ebay did NOT FAIL. Their encryption held UP to the hackers and the hackers did NOT access financial info. Yes hackers got in, so if you want to view that a failure on Ebay's part, then OK. But to me and many others, what was important was that Ebay's security DID protect my more sensitive information.
You are assuming they will hack Ebay again. That may or may not be true. We simply do not know.
"originally i was just adding to this conversation as i could not believe ebay needed this info.
but now i believe people need awareness that ebay is doing this on purpose, and that they do have a choice to use routing and checking but more steps are required from ebay system."
You may want to take a moment and read the TOS that goes with this option you have been concerned about. In the TOS it tells you that the login information and passwords are NOT given to Ebay. So you are CORRECT, Ebay doesn't need the information, nor to get get the information.

The fees in MP have NOT increased overall fees. The following numbers represent those that do not have a store and the fee rate for most common categories [not all].
Fees BEFORE going into MP
10.20% FVF + 2.9% PP fees = 13.10% plus 30 cent per transaction fee.
In MP the fees are:
10.20% FVF + 2.35% money processing fee paid to MP = 12.55% plus a 30 cent per transaction fee.

I agree, I was just trying to sell a few items today and was told: It looks like there's a problem with this listing.
- Your ability to list new items, relist, and revise listings has been restricted and your active listings will be ended. Start selling again by updating your account details now at ebay.com/startpayments.{e73000-1134537x}
I fallowed directions until it asked for a bank account. I guess I won't be selling on ebay anymore! Off to offer up and 5mile...
