Forcing you to give your checking account with routing number and Social Security number . I am not a big seller I just sold a few things I never used that I had then eBay locked my account AFTER selling some stuff saying I had to update my account. I refused to give my private information. I called eBay and of course I was tossed around from one person to another. I asked them why PayPal doesn’t ask you that kind of private information they allow you to use your bank card like a credit card and do two small deposits with one withdrawal to verify. If you are a business they only require your EIN number.  Never do they ask you for your private information. Brittany from eBay the last woman I was talking to said well PayPal is a Financial company and a eBay is a market place. Ok so that supposed to make me feel comfortable giving Them my private information? That is supposed to tell me it’s Secure to do so? I had to ship the stuff I sold to the people because I’m not a jerk but eBay won’t give me my money. I told Britney I was deleting my account she sent me the link. Once I know the people received what they purchased ( because I’m honest)  and want to make sure they got it even though it cost me money. I WAS a victim of fraud twice. My SS# was stolen and it ended up freezing my tax returns and the second time I had my bank account drained. I was told by the police to NEVER give your SS # out other than in person and never give your routing # out unless it’s in person or a government site which have very high security and Only if you need to exp: direct deposit tax return. I have never given it out since. There is NO good reason eBay needs that. They have documentation they took the sales tax out. Personally I think anyone that got ripped off by eBay and they will not give them their money back need to get together and sue eBay.

i was going to list a few things after seeing they wanted my ss number and bank account ive decided against it . ebay is really shooting itself in the foot because i was going to buy something and relist it. .  its really stupid all my accounts cant list anymore because of some ceo or gov decision

There is nothing stopping you from using a alias name, ssn, and bday when you create your sellers account. They have no way of knowing if it's accurate since they're not able to validate the source documents.

@alohamonte, yes, they can verify your information. They may not do it immediately, but they will do it before very long. You can just enter the last 4 digits of your SSN at first, but they will ask for the rest of it eventually. You also have to provide a real checking account, with all matching information for name, street address etc. that matches your eBay account. 

Chance are, you will have pending payouts when they make you verify the information too.

If you take a look at the other sites similar to Ebay and close to their size [one direction or the other], they ALL require the same information.  Ebay is the last of the larger sites to have their own money processing system, not the first.  Ebay is NOT the unicorn here, PayPal is.

Now that is a HUGE violation that would get you permanently band from Ebay.  And YES there are procedures in place to prevent this type of criminal act.  Because you'd have to set up a bank account to using the knowingly and intentionally incorrect information.  So YES you'd get caught.

I was completely unaware they had made this change, in the past I might have sold one or two things in a year, I recently sold 1 item, all of $100 plus shipping & fees, they are holding it until I let them into (and withdraw out of ) my checking account.  I shipped the seller the item at my expense because eBay won't release the funds.  I will likely just write it off as I refuse to let them have full access into & out of my account.  All it would take is one unscrupulous ebay employee to export a bunch of accounts & empty them from the Caymans or the like, then also start using SSN's which they would have a huge list of, to proceed with identity theft.  I guess ebay just stole an extra $100 since they won;t release it(and that is SO far below the IRS threshold as to not even be worth responding to), but it will be the LAST money they will get from me.
