It is totally unfair the way selling fees are made by EBay. I live in Virginia. And just recently I shipped a dog bed to Wa. state, The shipping fee was $108 USPS. I was charged 12.2 per cent of that amount plus the normal fee. I cannot sell items that I have to ship to the west coast . This is very unfair, if they are going to charge a fee on shipping plus taxes which ,I think is illegal. Why not set a standard fee. So the seller can figure out how to price items. I have been selling 21 years, And have watched our profit margin go down every few years. Very unfair, I will try to manage a few more months , but unless things change I'm looking somewhere else to sell.

You have 12767 feedbacks and still don't know how things work here? EBay isn't going to change and most sites work roughly the same way. If you can't make enough to cover the costs then you don't sell those items.

$10 item with buyer paying $5 shipping and handling.
Same item listed for $15 shipping included.
Same item listed for $1 with $14 shipping.
Which seller should pay the higher FVF on the sale??
Do you really want eBay to set shipping fees??

You can always do free shipping so you don't have to pay the extra fee.

Maybe that is why so many sellers offer free shipping around here?

The Shipping Price the buyer SHOULD pay is $121. That covers the 12.55% fee. It's how most successful businesses doing business on any facilitating website handles things.

eBay's final value fee is charged on the item price, the shipping cost and the state sales tax, if applicable.
Sorry you feel it's unfair and plan on going elsewhere. Let us know when you find a venue with fees more to your liking.

$108 shipping cost? Did you get a quote from UPS or FedEx to compare?

What? Now I know you know better than that. Sellers just add the shipping costs into the cost of the product because there is no such thing as actual free shipping. So you still pay the FVF on the shipping whether you do Free Shipping or Stated shipping.

Yeah - and the hilarious thing about this is, if they're fooling themselves that this somehow lowers fees, then they're not rolling the shipping into the item price as they should (and I'll bet many aren't) they're losing money. If they ARE rolling shipping in, they're paying the same amount of fees! 😂

You've sold quite a few items with costly shipping, why have you never noticed this before? Ebay has never hidden this fact. And has others have told you we have been paying FVFs on shipping for over 11 years now. So it certainly isn't new by any stretch of the imagination.
When you set your pricing, you will just need to keep this in mind. If you do calculated shipping you can put in a handling fee. If you do your own calculation, just make sure you add it. Or go to Free shipping and throw all the costs into the price of the product.

You are so correct. There was a brief few months one time years ago when Ebay charged one FVF on the Product price and one on the Shipping charge paid by the buyer. So for awhile those of us that ran Free Shipping listings, we did save a little money. Unfortunately Ebay discovered the error of their ways and fixed that pretty quickly. LOL

UPS would have been cheaper. Also did you fold/roll up as much as possible? I know USPS has a surcharge for what they consider oversized.
