TAX ID VERIFIED HELP

Hello,

I'm a seller from Mexico, and I add my Tax ID, since March. Today Ebay is charging me the ISR tax with a 20% rate, as if my Tax ID hasn't been verified. What can I do? Help.

Re: TAX ID VERIFIED HELP

What is ISR tax?

eBay charges sales tax according to the location it is delivere to. It is never 20 %

Not sure if other countries can be exempted.

Re: TAX ID VERIFIED HELP

If you mean IRS -- the United States Internal Revenue Service -- then my question to you is: how and why is eBay "today" charging you the IRS "tax with a 20% rate"?

When you sell to buyers with US addresses, the buyer (not you, as the seller) -- the buyer is charged and pays a sales (or use) tax at the current rate where that buyer is located.   In some states it might be zero sales tax, or as low as 5% or 6%, while other areas are approaching 10%.  Those sales taxes are imposed (think: impuestos) and collected by the states.

The IRS has nothing to do with state sales taxes that are charged on each purchase.

Where and when the IRS wants its share is after the first of each year and no later than April 15.  That is when all of us US taxpayers have to file our federal income tax returns.   On those returns, we have to tell the IRS how much money we earned (income) during the previous year from our regular jobs, from side gigs (like driving for Uber), from gambling, from child support, from selling stuff at yard sales or on eBay, from closing retirement accounts like IRAs or 401(k)s, from rents on residences we owned but rented out, etc., etc.

It seems to me to be a little early "today" to guess what one's federal income tax percentage for 2022 is.   I don't understand where you get that 20% figure.

Re: TAX ID VERIFIED HELP

I think that you are asking about buying in Mexico and skipping the sales tax

buyers here in the USA do not have to pay sales tax when they have a state tax number registered with ebay

in any case the ebayers on this forum have had some decent service from ebay thru facebook

Re: TAX ID VERIFIED HELP

Hi,

ISR is a tax from Mexico, that Ebay is applying to Mexican sellers, is the 20% if you don't have your Tax ID updated at EBay. I update it, but Ebay is holding that tax as if my TAX ID, isn't correct, so I want to know, what to do?

Re: TAX ID VERIFIED HELP

Good explanation.  Of course, I have never heard of the Mexican Impuesto sobre la Renta (ISR) and, of the people who posted responses to your original question, I don't think many of those posters know either.

I don't know anything about Mexican taxation.
I know just enough about American taxation to keep me out of trouble.
Part of what I know is to consult professional tax preparers when I'm not sure what to do.

This is just a wild guess, but would an accountant in Mexico be able to help you know what to do?
Does eBay have a Mexican site?  Does it have a Community Forum?

Hope you can find help.  Buena suerte.

Re: TAX ID VERIFIED HELP

I would contact a tax professional in Mexico who is familiar with the ISR rules and regulations. Most people here are like you...sellers and buyers and most don't have tax knowledge internationally or otherwise.  An accountant would be your best choice to answer your questions.

Con mucho Buena Suerte!

Re: TAX ID VERIFIED HELP

ENGLISH:
Hi, just wanted to share how I finally, FINALLY got my MEX tax ID verified, after like half a year of struggling:

Turns out my name was incomplete; And that is because they simply took it from my address information, instead of requesting it separately for tax purposes. So that is why the tax ID wouldn't validate.

So I updated my name on payoneer to my full name, and waited months for the tax ID to update. It didn't. I asked everyone on ebay chat support; Some really tried to help, even though they had no clue how to help with this.

So then I thought, maybe I should force the system to update, by listing a cheap item. So, I listed an item for $1.00, and it sold.

So I think there really is no way to pre-validate the Mex Tax ID, except by selling an item. And if your info doesn't match perfectly, the system won't tell you. It will just slap you with the 20%. This was my experience, at least. So, I would recommend checking your info is 100% perfectly correct on payoneer, especially your name and postal code, and then successfully selling a cheap item to force the tax ID to get verified. And then wait a month, at least.
