Payment changes

How is this mandatory "accepting payments" through our bank accounts and no longer Paypal MORE beneficial to us, as sellers? It seems that there will be more fees to pay and payments for sales will no longer be instant, there will be a waiting period... HOW DO SELLERS BENEFIT FROM THIS CHANGE that is required of us? How is this "better" and "more convenient"? I think that it's more convenient for Ebay, not for the sellers that keep Ebay running.

Yes they are. it's just more paper shuffling and excuses to charge you more in fees.

Re: Payment changes

My question is , who is gonna wait the extra few days, after paying for an item ? I  thought paypal was to speed up the process versus the old postal money orders in transit, which to be honest I preferred.  Paypal did make things quicker, and after a short time, payment confirmation was much quicker and I in turn would ship items same day.

Who is gonna ship same day now ? Surely nobody until the money is now IN THE BANK.

Neither here nor there, I am not giving them my banking info.

Re: Payment changes

This is really no different than their magic math fee table that never made any sense, this is just something new pin in the A$$ to diffuse that you are being raped with fees on top of fees.

I have been on ebay since 2000, I was a power seller until  ebay decided to change how that was calculated say around '08? . Ive seen open identity fully transparent auctions, open communication, and paypal, and now even Ebay bucks come and go, and I can say without any hesitation, that there is NO WAY IN HELL that ebay is getting my banking info.  Not only was there a password breach a few years back, but just think by chance that you have an issue with a seller, and ebay freezes your bank acct , right when the mortgage is due or God forbid another breach and your banking info is stolen. I think not, and I urge all to stand their ground and boycott this change.

The bottom line is that with every change ebay has made "in our best interest" , things have gotten worse for sellers, and from what I understand the fees are going to be jacked sky high.  I was a very diversified seller to start, I collected everything, so after ebay chased the "majority" of the buyers and sellers on those markets away around 2010, it has been slim pickings and impossible to sell at anywhere nearing market values as all ebay cares about is "quick flips" hence their ability to change your listings to accept offers, which is total **bleep** in my mind. To go hand in hand with that, the things I collect now seldom pop up as Facebook Marketplace, and group forums have come into vogue of late.

I may still browse once in a while, but my ebay days are sadly coming to a screeching halt.

Sadly I know that I have put some ebay workers kids through college or benefited them far greater than I have received in kind.

"Not only was there a password breach a few years back..."  Well yes an no.  You may want to do a bit more research on that before jumping to conclusions.  Ebay was hacked in 2014.  And yes the hackers got the files that contained some of the members passwords.  HOWEVER, there is a VERY important part that you neglected to share that makes that appear to be far more serious than it was.  The hackers NEVER got past the Ebay encryption of the passwords to obtain ANY of them.  In other words, Ebay's security PROTECTED all those members and the security was strong enough to hold the hackers off from getting any of the information contained there.  To me that doesn't make me more concerned about Ebay's security, it tells me that Ebay's security withstood the attack.

I guess there is more than one way too look at it.

I'm unsure of where you got the information that Ebay would have the power to "freeze" your bank account.  That is a pretty serious thing to allege.  Please provide a link to where you got this information from as it would be important for all of us to understand that.  It was my understanding that MP need access to our account mostly so they can make deposits via ACH transfers but also to make a withdrawal from the account if our MP account becomes overdrawn for a certain period of time, they will look to the attached checking account to fund the overdraft.  Having the ability to do that does NOT give them full and unfettered access to our accounts.  Those are assumptions some are making.

"...from what I understand the fees are going to be jacked sky high."  Where are you getting this information from please???  Another important thing we should all be aware of if indeed it is factual and not just an assumption or gossip.

You have every right to stay or go.  That is your decision to make.  Hopefully you are making such an important decision on assumptions and gossip but the actual facts of the program.

IN no way shape or form... This is another of ebays bonehead ideas to make up for the last bonehead idea.. Whatever happened to ebays newest bestest paypal type payment option ? NOBODY climbed on board so now they want your personal banking info ? I think not, I'm done selling here as of May 17th... This place has become a joke.

@peedenmark7

It seems you aren't actually informed on the actual facts of the program.  Some sellers stay and some sellers go.  Your opinion that "nobody is on board" is simply incorrect and not supported by the facts.  Currently there are over 4 million sellers in MP and that number grows daily.

MP has been around for over 3 years now.  From the start they have always needed bank account info because MP transfers your money to your bank account.  It is how the program gets your money to you.

So far over 4 million sellers and the number is constantly growing.  It is Ebay's goal to have ALL sellers in MP by the end of the year.  That is about 18+ million sellers worldwide.  So 4+ million isn't anywhere near the "nobody" neighborhood.

Now with that said, the switch to MP is the most problematic for Casual sellers such as yourself.  The threads are full of sellers in a similar position to you.  So this is a real issue and one that is important.  But unfortunately it is a stay or go type situation for now.  MP has grown a lot and changed a lot over the past 3 years and it is likely to continue along that path in the future.  But no one knows how long it will take for the program to grow into something that more Casual sellers are comfortable with.

I wish you nothing but the best in whatever you decide to do.

Re: Payment changes

The fact that they were hacked and I was ordered to change my password yet again is enough, As far as fees go, this is what I wast told by fellow sellers, here say ? I'll give you that.

With regard to your banking being frozen, does it not stand to reason that paypal /ebay would freeze your funds if there was an issue  today? That is correct and true, dont think for one minute that ebay is not going to do the same moving forward.

You know what, I'm done with this place.... tired of being taken advantage of. I for the most part stopped selling in 2008 when ebay went to closed communication and anonymous bidders. Ive tried to find a reason to get back in post 2010 crash, and each time ebay makes a bone headed decision.

this is ebays death-knell.

OK.  So you would have preferred that they didn't require you to change your password??  Because of Ebay's actions and encryption all of our sensitive information was protected and you don't think that was important?  Interesting.

What I've expressed on this subject is not "here say", Google it.  It is public information.

No it doesn't.  They may freeze your MP account, but not your bank account.  And I haven't read anywhere that anyone has reported such an instance happening, so please provide a link to wherever you read that information as it would be very important for all of us to be aware of it.

I do however wish you nothing but the very best wherever you go.

Re: Payment changes

I totally agree. This is a way for ebay to cut out paypal and collect fees directly PLUS all your account info is at the mercy of hackers. Really give ebay my SS # NOT going to happen.

I would like to contact the Att Generals office to complain.

I spoke to ebay rep and if I do not comply my account will be shut down by ebay. Amazing. Everyone needs to complain. ebay phone # 1 800 322 9266

Re: Payment changes

As far as I can tell. You are forced to give ebay all your account info which passes thru a 3rd party to continue your account. If not it will be closed.

But if enough sellers complain maybe they will keep all accounts open.

Mine will be closed om 5/28/21 if I don't sign up. Oh well.
