Managed Payments is Terrible - Any Opinions?

Why has eBay forced all sellers into these "Managed Payments?" I sold something last Thursday Aug. 27th and the money still isn't in my bank and it has been 5 complete (nearly 6) total days since the sale. These "Managed Payments" are really a strain on me. I've been selling here for over 20 years and there have been a lot of unpopular changes throughout the years but this managed payment deal has to be the worst. Why couldn't they just leave "well enough" alone? Plus I noticed eBay's tacking on another 30 cents on top of normal final value fee to top it off!  So in reality, your not listing anything for free any longer, they are simply holding back the list fee and tacking it onto the end of your sale! Ludacris!  I've learned that complaining to the corporate eBay world doesn't do anything to change things so I'm not wasting my time. But maybe, just maybe if a long list of sellers complained about the "Managed Payments" format they "just might" listen. Yeah, you're right, they don't care, they just want the all mighty dollar! Anyone else here disgusted with this new managed payment format? Please let me know. UGH!!!  😤

In conclusion of this rant, I'm not big on reading all the eBay notices that they send, I figure you can't do nothing about it so just "go with the flow"  I decided to do the math on the item I sold. Well, it turns out eBay has raised their profit percentage! Used to be 10% final value fee  (I do not have a store) now it's 13%!!! I knew there had to be a catch built into these ridiculous "Managed Payments" changes! Shame on eBay!!  It's all about, "NOTHING - BUT HOW MUCH MONEY THEY MAKE!" And ZERO about making it easier to get paid by your customers!  What a shame!   😞

Sometimes it is good to rant.

But it is also good to read the ebay changes/announcements.  Some of them are very important.

I see you found that they changed the way fees are charged.  If you read further you will understand that part of it is considered the payment processing charge, not unlike the fee you use to pay paypal.

Personally I don't have problems with Managed payements and I get a transfer every business day and I may changed it to weekly.

I suppose if you were use to yanking out every penny you were paid from paypal daily, it is a change and it seems uncomfortable, but I just don't find anything wrong with the way they transfer money to you.    I've never considered the money actually "mine" until the 30 day return time line has passed anyway.  Just another way to think about things.

It is standard for any "Payment Processor" to charge a flat fee + percentage.  With PayPal, I believe that was 45 cents, + 2.9%.   So with eBay processing the payment, it is 30 cents fee and 2.35-2.5%  (I think it varies by category you sell in, of course check your category)  Point is this is a standard fee for any payment processor, that you were likely already paying before.

Best to stop and think...........that 13% includes what you USED to pay PayPal........ you no longer pay them 2.9 +30c for each transaction.

I think it may take a couple of wks for payments to straighten out and let you figure out when the payments will be made.

I chose wkly payments........the first wk, payments weren't made for items sold Sat-Mon.  This second wk, all were made including those made over the wkend.  I frankly like the wkly payments......give me a real idea of what I'm "taking home".........

Once you move over to Manage Payments there is an option for you to choose how you want your payments paid out (daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly).

I don't know if new sellers are able to pick daily payments. I know when I started selling on eBay my funds were not available to me immediately through PayPal as eBay requested they place a hold on my eBay funds. After I had proven myself as a reliable eBay seller then my eBay funds became available immediately,

I've been here since 1999. Managed Payments is the last straw for me. I did not sign up, I will not give eBay my social security number or access to my bank account because I have been violated with identity theft in the past. I am closing my store the end of September and ending GTC listings before they relist in October, then I will be done. I've already listed my inventory in a different marketplace and have been focused there. Best thing I have found in my PayPal account is a list of all my customers and their contact info since 2014. I don't have personal email address for those who made purchases after eBay stopped showing them last year, but I do have addresses. So I have begun marketing my new store. Leaving eBay is not what I want to do, but what I FEEL I am being forced to do. There is life after eBay. Good Luck to those who decide to stay.

No do not agree, they should give you the CHOICE whether to use Managed Payments or leave it be, I say leave it be. They give you no choice...wrong.

So, it's the same you were paying as before with Pay Pal?

Have a great day.

I have been on eBay since 1998 and am considering doing the same.  eBay's  always calling Us & Them a Community is a real load of Steaming Bandini.  Try dictatorship.  If you do not mind.  Can you let me know which Marketplace you moved to?

Cheers!

You were forced into it because Mommy and Daddy got a divorce. Now you live with just one of them and since they only have half the money, the house on the hill you used to live in has been exchanged for an apartment with noisy neighbors and a carport storage for all your 'garage' stuff. Your Ten Speed is in the dining room, and if you want to play with the dog on the grass, you have to go to the neighborhood park.

It's not your fault......But, you have to live with it.

It's all in the brochure.

I am just getting started with MP, and I already deeply dislike it.

How on earth can it be that after having PayPal as the exclusive payment platform on eBay for decades--now, you can't even have your MP monies transferred to your PayPal account?

This is ridiculous.  When I called customer support about this, I was told it is because "the agreement with PayPal expired."

WHO CARES?  MAKE ANOTHER AGREEMENT, DUH!  Its not like the two companies haven't been working together for decades. They have millions of customers in common.

So much of the negativity swirling around MP could be alleviated by simply offering integration to PayPal.  It boggles the mind that eBay didn't foresee this and have the feature available for sellers.

This also begs the question (and I think I know the answer): if somebody buys something from you on eBay and uses PayPal, can at least those transactions credit to your PayPal account?

This is a truly sad state of affairs for eBay.

The only way out is to find another place to sell your items.

Have a great day.
