It is NOT optional! When you are called you are in! Everyone (almost) will be in MP at some point over the coming months.

Must use if you want to continue selling on eBay. Read all about it here:  https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/getting-paid/introducing-managed-payments-ebay?id=4795&st=12&pos=...

As to your date, they'll let you know. You can start getting ready by setting up a checking account to receive your money. The name on the account must match your register eBay account exactly. Read the posts on the Payments board to see what you're up against.

No, it is not optional. It was announced over two years ago and in the spring and fall seller updates since then.

Re: Is this optional: Getting paid on eBay has changed

Time to get off this train.

The last thing anybody needs is yet another bank disguising itself as an internet service. That is the primary benefit in collecting SSNs. It allows for financial profiling and marketing loan products. This is apparent if anyone reads the T&Cs for PayWithMyBank and Trustly when forced to switch over to managed payments.

On the upside, requiring SSN level identification in order to receive proceeds of eBay sales may cut down on a lot of fraudulent sales. But typically this kind of thing is sign of stagnation for a non-finance based business. If the only way an internet based service can pursue growth is to try and seduce users into taking on predatory levels of debt then it has already jumped its shark.  Look at Uber suckering drivers into taking loans against the value of rides they haven't even done yet. That's called debt bondage for a reason.

Unless you're already operating a full-blown internet sales business, adopting managed payments is likely to result in endless offers for loans that will lead to the destruction of your business. For the occasional seller, it's better to stick with Etsy, craiglist, and FB marketplace. Eventually eBay is going to get devoured when somebody finally delivers a high quality online marketplace based on crypto. Wouldn't be surprised if such a thing emerges out of the gaming industry they way Twitch did.

Re: Is this optional: Getting paid on eBay has changed

I'm done selling as of May 17th... I'm not paying the new fees or giving them my banking info.

until ebay gets their head out of their you know what, it's not worth it, really hasnt been the place to be since 2010. I make far more on facebook marketplace and group forums than I ever made here.

It's funny how forums came and went, and are back again.

This banking scheme is just another way ebay can aid the IRS  in their tax collection.
