Hit with a periodic performance review

The other day i got hit with a periodic performance review, i have no idea what triggered it i have had many big sold items with my biggest being $800.00 i sold to $800 items actually. The Only thing i could think of is. the buyer recently bought an item for me, i always test my items again before sending. So the item wasn't working i informed the buyer the item isn't working and we would have to cancel.

The buyer came back to me and said ok ill buy it as is, Can we agree to refund half the payment since it is broken. Which i agreed and sent him half back. Ebay can review my messages and see if this is the problem.

i only have 2 defects on my account because items being out of stock. other than that my account is above standard

Re: Hit with a periodic performance review

I don't see any reason why that performance review will not be glowing, so I wouldn't worry.  Maybe it will come with good news like higher limits.    I see nothing to worry about.

Re: Hit with a periodic performance review

You are relatively new and already have two defects. Not good. You need to fix your stock problem before you get an extended vacation. You are lucky you didn't collect two negatives.

Re: Hit with a periodic performance review

Actually 2 Defects isn't bad, No idea how having 2 items out of 500 out of stock is bad but ok. My account is above standard. And i have 100% feedback a lot of sellers have even more defects than i have.

Re: Hit with a periodic performance review

Periodic reviews are random and not as a result of anything you might have done wrong.  There are other kinds of holds that can be for problems with your account, but it is likely this is just a random one.  They take

3-5 days to complete normally.  If it goes beyond that, then make sure you contact Ebay.

Just to be safe, check your Seller Hub and make sure there isn't a RED flag at the top letting you know that Ebay needs something from you.

Payout holds

Payout holds are when we hold funds payable to a particular seller, and usually require further seller action on the account.

  • Registration holds: We may hold payouts if we identify a discrepancy with the information you provided at registration. If your account is restricted, we'll notify you by email with a request for additional information. For more information on how to verify your identity, see our article on registering as a seller
  • Compliance holds: eBay maintains policies and procedures to protect buyers and sellers while complying with applicable laws. If your account has a payout hold or restriction for compliance reasons, we'll notify you by email and may request additional information from you
  • Performance holds: We hold your payouts if we identify unusual activity associated with your account, such as increased customer claims, a sudden change in your selling activity, late deliveries, or negative buyer feedback
  • Invalid payment method: We may put your payouts on hold if we can't deduct your selling fees and other costs from any of your on-file payment methods. In this case, you’ll need to add another payment method
  • Tax information: We may put your payouts on hold if we can’t validate your Form W-9 for tax returns

Re: Hit with a periodic performance review

You might not understand, but out of stock defects are one of the worst things you can do on eBay. That is how you become below standard and how you lose your account. The percentage is not based on how many items you have for sale, it's based on how many items you have sold. Look at your performance metrics. It show you how many out of stock defects will move you into below standard territory, which comes with eBay increasing the percent of your sale that they keep. Check again next month to see if you are still above standard.

Excellent advice for @ibuyrandomstuffshop .  I would just add that you need to review your Seller Dashboard on a regular basis so issues that can cost you a lot don't sneak up on you.  Two may not seem like a lot, but divided by your completed sales it can be and you could closer than you think to getting into a problem.

Re: Hit with a periodic performance review

Sellers are still required to ship the items even though they are not allowed to touch their payments, and eBay is still entitled to their fees from these payments. Sellers are not "forced" to continue selling, but since this is random, the seller is not notified about this prior to the hold, so payments have already been made. I can see zero reason why eBay should be allowed to randomly hold payments for account review. Any reviews can be made while the seller can still access their money. Banks don't freeze accounts without reason.....neither should eBay.

Yes you should still ship, you can create the shipping label through Ebay and have the funds to cover shipping taken from your MP account.

Yes Ebay is still entitled to their fees, why wouldn't they be, you still had a sale.  Do you somehow feel that if you are in a Performance review that you should have free fees??

I agree that is a problem.  Ebay should give you a heads up a few days in advance that the Performance Review is coming, but I can also see some real problems with that too.  Some that are misbehaving may take the money and run if they were to know the Review was coming in a few days.  So it makes sense that Ebay doesn't give advanced notice.

I do agree with you about holding ALL funds for so long, 3-5 days.  Ebay is the only site I know of that does this.  I do sell on a couple other sites and neither does this.  When we were with PayPal, they had random security checks, but they only held funds on one transaction and it was over in 1-2 days.  So I'm with you on this.

If anyone’s still active, has it taken less than 3 days for anyone?

Re: Hit with a periodic performance review

2 Negs and 5 Neutrals in a 12 month or less period is very bad for having 130 stars. And if you look at what the feedback says? Kiss of Death for a seller. Evokes I don't care and carelessly pack my possibly valuable item(s). I have been selling on Ebay since 2005. I might get a Neg once every 2 or 3 years. And of those most are irrational customers with buyer remorse or didn't have the right address on file. This seller needs to step up their game.
