Forcing me to upload photo ID and bank statements, I've had enough

I've had the same ebay account for close to 20 years with a stellar track record.  Over the last couple years, ebay has forced changes on me based on their pay-in / pay-out structure.  Fine, I've gone along with it.

Now they are asking for photo ID and a bank statement or they won't allow pay-outs on my account.

I don't know about you all, but I'm not trusting this large an organization (a breach risk) with my private information when it's completely unnecessary.  I'm not taking out a business loan here or refinancing my house.  There is no need for ebay to have this information.

I'm not sending any of this.  I'll just do what I need to do elsewhere.  I can do most of this on Amazon anyway.

Ridiculous.

But yet you gave it to AZ?

You NEVER had to give that info to Ebay before. Maybe Paypal, but that is not ebay.

Ebay now has a different Processor and that New Processor needs that info since they have Never got it from you before.

Good luck to you elsewhere.

No one is forcing you to do anything, if you want to sell here, you need to submit the required information. If you don't, that is your choice, not to sell here. Good luck finding a major online marketplace with this much exposure that does not ask for the same information, esp with the 1099 $600 threshold. I would not be surprised to see Craigs list and Facebook Marketplace soon to follow, re same information being requested.

Re: Forcing me to upload photo ID and bank statements, I've had enough

I was asked to provide the same information.  Have been a top rated seller for 19+ years.  I called customer service to inquire why this information was being requested, they explained the tax law changes.  Once I understood the reasoning I asked if I could white out any of the non-eBay related bank transactions, which are private information and not pertinent, in my opinion, to identify verification.  The representative said that was permissible after checking with a manager.  I proceeded to upload both documents.  Today I received a message stating my verification could not be completed due to whiting out the details of the non-eBay related bank transactions.  I am going to call back today, I don't understand why they would need to see all my bank transaction detail, it seems invasive to my privacy and unnecessary to verify my identify.

Ive never heard of submitting your  bank transactions. Why not just submit your account information?

The asked me to upload my drivers license and a bank statement, which includes all the banking transactions I conducted for that particular month.  This obviously includes a lot of non-eBay activity.

Re: Forcing me to upload photo ID and bank statements, I've had enough

Many (probably most) sellers have a separate online bank account for business purposes. Many are free and have low requirements. There should be no need to use your personal account. You wouldn't do that if you had an actual store, restaurant, shop etc. would ya? Good luck~

Re: Forcing me to upload photo ID and bank statements, I've had enough

@bonjourami Thats odd..

Why? They asked me for either a 'voided' check or a bank statement. Because my checks were bank issued and did not have the little 'check guarantee with a lock on it' upper right corner of the check (because these only come with checks you order) I had to give them a copy of my Bank Statement. Problem with that was it's a Credit Union; only shows the 1st 7 digits and does NOT show the first 12 digits of a checking acct. since it is a 'member' statement which includes other checking/savings & loans all on one statement.

So, I had to 'order' checks to get that little 'lock' shown, void it, upload again etc. all so they could VERIFY the checking acct. routing and acct. number.

Luckily I started doing this right when they told me to and before i was actually turned over to MP, so I lost no time.

Re: Forcing me to upload photo ID and bank statements, I've had enough

Maybe I had to give less information because I had already changed over to my checking account to pull fees from well before being asked to switch over to Managed Payments. All I had to do was last 4 of SS and re-enter checking account numbers. (don't think I have ever sold over the Oregon 1099 level, which has been $600 for quite a while now anyway)

Maybe the extra requested information is because of what some people are selling, dollar selling level or could be sales records; returns, charge back etc that put a seller in a higher risk category.

@gougabulldogs

You know you can black out those personal transactions.

Or like a great number of sellers do, we opened a checking account specifically for online selling and that is the account we attach to Ebay and any other sites we sell on.  I've done this for a LONG time and it works very well.  Plus accounting is much easier keeping things separated.  Business vs Personal.

And with the changes coming to the 1099K starting next year, it will help your bookkeeping too.
