Extortion and Racketeering and Managed Payments

This is all becoming too insane.  Ebay has frozen my payouts even though I have sent in the requested infromation.  Customer service is useless.  I am on the phone with them right now for about the fifth time.  Each time I am assured payments will be reinstated within 72 hours.  So I wait and nothing happens.  There is about $970 owed to me, not a paltry sum of money.  It is causing me financial hardship, fees for overdraft protection and I unable to sell because eBay will just freeze those funds too.  Probably the worst experience I have had with a giant entity like eBay.  Completely illogical is the only way to describe it.  It has to be criminal just to seize someone's money like that.  That is many people's income to LIVE ON!  There is no recourse; you are at their mercy and they know it!  You can complain to whoever if you want.  I was warned  that it would really take a long time to get my money if I did that and I could no longer sell.  I am trying to comply with what they want but they are not clear what is needed.  eBay does not care if you quit in protest so that only hurts you.  I was just told it is all because my name on my drivers license read my full middle name and on my eBay account I only used my middle initial.  If I just change it and wait 72 hours I will have access to my funds.  NONSENSE, last time I talked with them, they said the problem was my bank statement was not in color and to submit one that is in color and wait 72 hours.  Well you know how that went.  With the new 1099 tax changes it is clear that the world is just becoming unhinged.  If you dont know what I am talking about, the 1099 will be issued for sales exceeding $600,  So selling your own used stuff that you paid for and were taxed on at least twice (income tax money to by and sales tax at time of purchase) now a resell tax and since you are considered an independent contractor you pay it all.  Even if you sell at a loss? I dont know but I guess I will find out.

Have you ever received a payout since being in maaged payments ? If so, sometimes eBay do later require another verification of your details - why ? No idea, but they sometimes do.

I would contact a CPA since it is clear you do not understand tax laws. You might want them to check previous returns if you did them your self. The last thing you need now is the IRS going through your returns if you only included income that was on a 1099

Yes, your information has to match on everything to receive your payments.

@duvmar9

The $600 threshold for 1099Ks does not happen until next year.  It will NOT affect ANY of us for this year.  So relax a bit, the threshold is still $20K and/or 200 transactions.

You are correct, your name must PERFECTLY match on each piece of information you submitted to Ebay as does your address.  This is a federal requirement for Ebay in the process of verifying your identity.  Ebay has to do this.

Read this, it is likely to really help you get the right information to Ebay or get the incorrect information corrected.

Re: Extortion and Racketeering and Managed Payments

eBays trash site for selling and from what I've searched they have been for years. They make their profit from treating their sellers like dirt. Also be careful about speaking out against them as they may send a hit squad for you. You can find out about this in a 2019 lawsuit by a Massachusetts couple. There's one thing for sure and that is they need someone who can work their policies on hold money and allowing buyers to leave negative feedback on anything regardless. Why allow negative feedback to be left 60 days when a return is only 30? eBays the worst nightmare any dealer of collectibles can have. It's a great place to shop. Especially to cheat someone out of their merchandise. eBay will help you in your fraud and if they don't they'll at least let you leave negative feedback for your competitor. Their customer service will provide you with lip service to get you off the phone believe me. Don't fill out the survey they so hastily send you until after you're sure you weren't lied to. Don't dare make a $2000 sale and earn them money. They'll just put a hold on it. Throw it into a business account and earn all the interest themselves. While you're trying to figure out how your going to pay your bills. eBays one size fits all policy sucks. They need competent employees they can allow to make decisions on a case by case bases. Their bull will one day come to a head. Enough people will hear and know about the treatment they give to the ones making their website money and stay clear or never sell anything over a couple hundred. One day a better auction site will out so them. In the meantime I'll continue to buy and support the sellers I can with real reluctants that eBays getting a cut of their profit and possibly screwing that seller in some way. eBays real great to the buyers especially possible con artist. They'll help them in their fraud any way they can. If they refuse then a refund they'll be ok with them leaving you negative feedback to affect your ratings. I suspect to be able to raise your selling fees. eBays left a bad taste in my mouth that it's not funny.
