Ebay holds on to your payments for 2 weeks before you receive????

Wow.  I haven't sold on eBay for a while and the "new policy" of eBay holding on to your payments for up to 2 weeks seems to border on fraudulent to me. The  Buyer pays but the money "sits somewhere" (probably in an eBay bank account) for 2-3 weeks??? Just sold 2 items which are boxed and ready to ship but I am supposed to wait until Dec. 6 for the money to come to me??!!  Not the eBay I remember.

As you "haven't sold on eBay for a while" you are now considered as a "new"/occasional seller with all the limits & restrictions/payment holds,etc...been there & know all about it...and it sucks!

I dragged my feet over the MP system here in Canada just way too many issues, didn't list anything for over 6 months and when I did finally sign up for MP, well let's just say my 20 years experience here means diddley squat... had to start all over again and now have to work with all the limitations/restrictions/payment holds....

eBay will advise you as to when you need to ship the item...but your payment will indeed be on hold until confirmation of delivery. Not great but it is doable...so you have to adjust, adapt, and carry on!

At two weeks you're apparently lucky.  I've seen here that some are held as long as 30 days!!  And you're right: it seems really wrong to me, too.  I sell on another place with the very same system, Adyen, and I have decent sales and never had to wait more than 2 days (unless it's a weekend, of course) ever.  No matter how many commas in the total.  This has always bugged me, so when it was my turn to sign-up, I tried 2 times with little luck so I bailed.  Life's too short---- I hope, so much, that you have a quick resolution to your payment!  Keep us posted, please!

P.S. Don't wait to send to your buyers!  They won't understand and you'll be docked and dinged for it and then ebay can tack on an additional 5% to you FVF for as long as they want.  Send the packages out!

What new policy?

You're considered a new seller and new sellers can have their funds held and it's been this way as long as I've been here.

Have a great day.

Hello?? I have been selling on eBay since there was an eBay and have over 500 sales to prove it.  The prior  bpolicy was that you were paid through PayPal as soon as the buyer sent funds and the seller could then transfer the funds to a bank account immediately.  I am NOT a new seller.  As for shipping out, I have always shipped my packages immediately so I should not be financially penalized for the bad practices of some others.  I still contend this is a simply a way to hold funds in some "eBay bank account" making interest for eBay (as if the new fees are not ridiculous enough  --  12.55%???!!!) and then pass payments along weeks later.

Yes, you've sold some items down through the years, but then you quit selling and started up again which resets your selling account.

Paypal held our hands and gave us free little advance loans - no other payment processor does that, and it was only because eBay and Paypal were (sort of) one company.  Now they are not.  We have to grow up and deal with payments like every other payment processor.  And did you forget that Paypal charged you fees, too?  For some categories, fees have actually gone down.

This is not a new policy.  It is one Ebay has had for year for New Sellers and sellers returning to selling after 90+ days away.

Well, probably the last time I sold a number of items was in 2018 and I can assure, the policy was NOT in effect then. When a buyer paid, the $$ went immediately to Paypal and I then could (or not) transfer the money to my bank account.  I find this system to be extremely convoluted and the eBay fees absolutely absurd.  12.55% ++??!! This site is no longer (as it was at the start) a good place for collectors buying and selling.  It is clearly set up to accommodate big time resellers who are dealing in mass quantities of merchandise.

The fees in MP have NOT increased overall fees. The following numbers represent those that do not have a store and the fee rate for most common categories [not all].

Fees BEFORE going into MP
10.20% FVF + 2.9% PP fees = 13.10% plus 30 cent per transaction fee.

In MP the fees are:
10.20% FVF + 2.35% money processing fee paid to MP = 12.55% plus a 30 cent per transaction fee.

Starting August 2nd, PayPal is raising their fees, so they will be as follows:
10.20 Ebay FVF + 3.49 PP Fee = 13.69% plus .49 cent Per Transaction fee

PP is apparently offering different fees to different sellers, likely depending on size. From what I've seen it is between 2.59% and 3.49%.

I agree. I've never experienced this before and have been on ebay for 15 or 20 years. Was really shocked. What really hurts is if you have to pay high shipping charges for relatively low value large items so you end up being, say, £50 down 2 weeks before you receive your  £150 or whatever. Will certainly think twice before using ebay again for this sort of selling. I'm also stuck with one sale where a guy has paid but not arranged collection. Previously he would have paid and this would make him come and collect the item. As it is I don't know how to move it on.

1) You seem to be lost. This is eBay USA.

2) You pulled up an old, dormant thread

3) eBay gives you the option to pay for postage using the buyer’s payment

4) Selling low-cost items that cost a lot to ship isn’t a good idea on eBay.

@andy.mck

I've never experienced this before and have been on ebay for 15 or 20 years.

Nor has anyone else as MP is only a 4 year old program with a small number of sellers in the program the first couple of years.  In July of 2020 they started moving sellers into MP in larger groups with a goal of having all sellers in the program by the end of 2021.

Was really shocked.

Why?  This wasn't a secret program.  Ebay has talked about it all along.

What really hurts is if you have to pay high shipping charges for relatively low value large items so you end up being, say, £50 down 2 weeks before you receive your  £150 or whatever.

This shouldn't matter for a couple of reasons.  Your high shipping charges should be covered by what you charge the buyer for the shipping.  So if you aren't charging your buyer enough, you simply need to adjust your rates.

MP has an option if you print your shipping labels through Ebay.  On EVERY label there is an option at the bottom of the form to have the cost come from your MP account or your PP account, seller choice.  Once you make a selection, it will stay that way until you have a need to change it.  If you choose MP, then the funds will be pulled from your MP account.

Will certainly think twice before using ebay again for this sort of selling.

Actually with a better understanding of the program, you are likely fine.  You simply need to do your homework and LEARN the program instead of assuming it is horrible and disregarding it.

I'm also stuck with one sale where a guy has paid but not arranged collection. Previously he would have paid and this would make him come and collect the item. As it is I don't know how to move it on.

I can't say that I completely understand this statement.  In the UK when your buyer makes a payment THEY are responsible to arrange collection?????  What does that mean??  Or do you mean a buyer has paid you and they typically come to your location and pick up the item?  If that is what you mean, contact your buyer and ask them.  If that isn't what you mean, please provide more information.

The following links are very informative and easy to read. Lots of great information in these articles that contain information you should be aware of. After you read them you will likely have questions. Come on back and ask whatever you need to.

Well, You obviously work for ebay, you and all the others with snide comments when we sellers who probably have more experience dealing with EBAY since inception than you snide low level employees who make remarks when a seller is disgusted by the **bleep**. If you don't have anything helpful or factual for that matter to say with your lack of years and years of dealing with it then you should keep your trap shut because obviously you don't know what you're talking about.
