Bank Account and SS numbers exposed

We are having a difficult time sending in our Bank account and SS numbers to EBay in order to get paid for sold items. Do not feel safe ? Does any one have a suggestion?

"There are only two types of companies: those that have been hacked, and those that will be.” ~ Robert Mueller, FBI Director, 2012

So doesn't it make sense to give out information only when necessary? IOW, it's not necessary on some sites. Yes, they don't have as robust a marketplace yet and you have to do some work. But if you stay, you will be routinely assessed money you do not owe be it willful intent, accident, or negligence. Customer service is all but non-existent and they become increasingly impotent to resolve disputes. Next month I gotta formally arbitrate a $40 FedEx overcharge because that's the only way I can see at this juncture to get restitution.

Stay for all I care. Just sayin'

eBay hack of 2014: 145,000,000 records.

Client identity information was stolen.

eBay didn't require financial information before MP.

Duh.

Ebay had my checking account information for 2 years by then and I didn't have any problems.

Have a great day.

Re: Bank Account and SS numbers exposed

Personal identification information was, ostensibly, stolen: names, addresses, emails, encrypted passwords, birthdays, etc. using the credentials of three corporate employees.

Have you read the terms detailing the extent to which your information is outsourced under the terms of MP?

Of course you have. I quote-posted it. Rhetorical question. Just ignore me.

You are funny.  Either it was stolen or it wasn't.  "Ostensibly" has no validity in this conversation.  In this particular case of the 2014 hack the only thing that you stated above that is correct was that the hackers were able to get the encrypted passwords.  Everything else is a bunch of gossip without any facts.  They were never able to un-encrypt the passwords.  And Ebay in an effort to make everyone secure REQUIRED that we all change our passwords.  There was no choice, we had to change our passwords or we couldn't access our accounts.  The hackers then, even if they did figure out how to encrypt the passwords , which there is no evidence that they ever figured it out, wouldn't be able to use the info anyway.

As to what info Ayden has access to.  I understand.  I've used them for years.  I also sell on Etsy that uses Adyen.  It just isn't an issue that you want to make it out to be.

I'd be happy to.

Re: Bank Account and SS numbers exposed

The deal-breaker for me is there is no honest-broker when it comes to erroneous charges to the account. You have to arbitrate or file small claims. Even if you're lucky enough to reach a real human being at CS, they're of no help.

Reading back on these boards, there was a time when "the blues" would chime in and expedite to resolve such matters.

Thanks for playing.

If you are unable to contribute to the topic, then you should refrain from stupid comments. They are not helpful and only show your ignorance.

Re: Bank Account and SS numbers exposed

I came here due to my (sometimes stubborn) extreme resistance in providing my date of birth and my ssan at almost any time, to anyone or any entity. The page I came here from was the page where I was about to sign up for this newest change and required to supply it. I have read through all posts to this point. Most made by two people, both very passionate, and both with good points. I was a seller with eBay during the mentioned "Hack". I am aware of no negative issues I experienced attributable to it. I have, due to reading through these exchanges, gone back and re-read some information on the internet (still available) when a thief stole information from all of us who were selling here at the time. I do not, and have not, always agreed with the way eBay conducts their business or with some of the policies they have, and periodically research what could possibly be a better venue for me to sell through. But that really is not the issue here. The bottom line is: If we (you) are going to sell through this venue, that requires that you and I adhere to whatever their rules are. I don't believe anyone should voluntarily provide information to a business or to anyone that they are not comfortable providing if they have a choice not to do so. The choice not to do so here is still available to them ... to me. We would just need to change venues. You will likely still see me here as a seller tomorrow, and yes, in 2022. I really see no choice not to provide what is asked for, as anywhere else I/we sell that is not our own venue, this would need to be provided. My one suggestion regardless of where you sell your wares, is to have a dedicated bank account for that business regardless of the gross dollar amount, and to research with your state (Secretary of State's Office) whether or not you are required to have a filing of a business name or entity with them, then comply with whatever they require. I wish you all well with each of your businesses, and trust you will make good business decisions.

beba=36411 said it in a way that people who are very afraid of change can understand.

Those who do not wish to comply with the government  rules  , either out of fear or ignorance,   will  not be allowed to sell.

No.

Those that want Paypal as a means of online banking, or, as sellers, insist on at least seeing THEIR accounts receivable hit their account rather than ownership of said A/R irrevocably transferred upon sale of the item, or, as just someone who refuses to business with an outfit sporting an arrested customer service that can't honestly broker settlements and disputes which ultimately have to be arbitrated to find redress... those are the ones who refuse to comply.

I bank at BofA among other banks.  My BofA controls the line with a security guard that spaces people ten to fifteen feet apart once inside.  About seven feet outside.  Luckily i have an existing checking account at Chase that made it easy to connect mangled payments.

Didn't EBAY already send a 1099 before MP was even thought of if you went over the $20 grand mark for one tax year?

As has been SO MANY times on all kinds of threads.

Paypal is NOT A BANK!!!  They are NOT FDIC Insured.

I bank with BOA too.  I never left my house to set up another checking account with them.  I did it over the phone in just a few minutes.  The paperwork I needed to sign was sent to me.  It was so easy!!!

Nope because there would be no need for them to do that.  They didn't process payments them.  the 1099K is a requirement for Money Processors not a site that you might sell on.

So for those that are in MP, the transactions that go through MP will be the transactions that would count towards the thresholds set forth my IRS for the 1099K.  Any transactions you had BEFORE you were in MP would be accounted for by PayPal.
