10% was the number I remember for such. Is there a more reasonable site to sell your items?

You're going to need to research that on your own.

That is typically the average one for regular users. Though have always wondered if paid sub get better rates (i.e. lower pct based on volume), can anyone weigh in on that?

10% plus 2.9% to PayPal = 12.9%. That was over a decade ago. Prices on everything has gone up since then.

With PayPal as the processor, years ago, fees were at 12.9%.
13.25% in most categories now.
I can say that AMZ starts at 15%.
Don't know exactly what other sites competing with eBay charge but I doubt if you get more exposure elsewhere.

You just never noticed the Paypal fees because they silently deducted them. You'd have to check the sale details on their site and most never did. The total fees now are almost exactly the same. Some categories (media comes to mind) did get raised. Guitars and basses were actually decreased to compete with another site.

Yes, a lot of my sales are in Networking categories and are at 9% and then eBay kicks back 10% of the fees for TRS+

That's interesting. Doesn't Ebay own Paypal? That feels like a monopoly? (They bought it in 2002.) Certainly there has been massive inflation, however that inflation already increases the price of items sold which then increases revenue for Ebay? It feels wrong to me; what costs in electrons does an automated computer-entry produce for the company which needs to be adjusted for?

Ebay has not partnered with PayPal for a while. That is why they use Adyen for a payment processor.

@rollingbosky Nope- they sold it years ago (and wasn't a 'monopoly' then for numerous obvious reasons (look up 'monopoly')

It's cheaper than paying $50 up front for an 'ad' in the local newspaper with NO guarantee it would even sell.
ps. best to probably NOT go to the forum of a place you think is 'too much' and ask 'where can I get this lower'...
Like going to Walmarts Forum and asking 'where can I buy this exact sweater for less?'

You would have a hard time finding another site to sell items which do not work, like your recent sales.
Amazon, for example, requires all items listed be fully functional.
And though Etsy might let you list, Etsy Vintage get a pathetic number of buyers for items compared to Ebay.

eBay and PayPal used to be same pants, different pockets. That's no longer the case. They've been separate entities since 2015.

Yeah, Amazon requires fully functioning but if you receive something not as described or damaged because they threw the box over the fence they might not refund.
I ordered cat food and several of the cans on the bottom of the box had burst open and leaked and attracted flies, thus maggots, which I didn't know until maggots were crawling all over the box.
i called to get my money back.
They said the cat food was not returnable.
Well fine. I don't want to return maggoty chit but I wanted a refund for the damaged cans. Amazon refused to give my money back.
I rarely buy from Amazon now. They lost a good customer.
