Greetings from Winnipeg

hey there folks. Good to see that this group hasn't disbanded. I finally have internet. I am more or less moved in our house and went to work long enuf to clear in and take leave. Holy crap home ownership and TLC is a lotta work. I havn't stopped since Aug 4. Cripes!! it's been quite a journey to get to this point. I was succesful in taking all my hard alcohol into USA and back into Canada. :D Spent 7 days in the states on route to here. Went thru at Calais,ME, thru NH, Mass, Conneticut, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana,Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, North Dakota. Highlights or lack of in somecases were, Shopping/just driving around in Kittery Maine. Couple of hours seeing part of Salem, Mass. Stopped long enuf to see the Pocono speedway on a friday evening as things were building up for sundays nascar race. (didn't have time to stay extra days to see race) Bought a few goodies from venders for my Man-Room. Didn't quite get to see Orange County Choppers as I never thought to get their complete address as Rock Tavern was off the interstate and a dot on the map. Well, stupid of me to be so naive. I was kinda sour for my stupidity as this was a once in a lifetime that I would probably be passing thru that way, so we had to keep on trucking. Got to see the Indy speedway woohoo!!. Got more stuff for recroom. Saw 'House on the Rock' in Wisconsin. Spent 11 hours at Mall of America. Spent more money there. Lastly got a OCC shop stool at a autoparts place in Fargo. After a week in hotels, get here on Jul 29 and find out my furniture went into storage and wouldn't get it til the 4th Aug. So a week of hotels in winnipeg. Barely unpacked and didn't like the panelling on the walls in recroom so I studded over it and sheetrocked it. Plus partitioned off a closet behind the bar. And painted the walls and floor in model/train room. pics uploaded someday when I have the time. Plus we did a lot of painting while we had the days to do it before movers came. Got railroad back on its legs. Sections not connected yet as I had to figure out how to lay it out in the room allocated. I have to abandon a tunnel and spur on the back of it to utilize the space without having duck unders. ANd I saw LOTS of trains here in the city. Thats how my summer has been since I left Nova Scotia. Whew.. Now for a lot of catching up in the threads. Good to be home (in the group) Dave

Oh yea, racked 5100 kilometers on this journey. And my freakin car still isn't here. Such a great idea for the movers send it by train. Rather ironic. Get screwed by my hobby. Dave

That moment will come CJ, if it shows up damaged. My RR layout actually fared out better than I thought it would. All the foam terrain I did survived. Some damaged/missing rail on a couple flex tracks,so I wasn't too torn up over that. Dave

Latest update. Without using profanity, which wil be difficult, the car was "misplaced" and "missed" the train while it was in Toronto. %%&^*%*%%!!! They are going to try to rush it here for next tuesday. Tuesday..I heard that before, like last week. ANother cruising weekend gone. &*^&%^%^!!! Did I mention &*^*&%^%%!!?? They are willing to reimburse me foe a rental car til it shows up. I don't need a rental car as I have the truck, but taking the car would get back at them. They shouls be letting me rent a corvette darn it!! not a midsize car. Still pondering whether to get the rental. Dave :X

Dave, Get the rental. Go for the top end car they will allow and have a nice cruise this weekend. If they only give you a mid-size, insist on an upgrade! And the gas better be on them too! (Dreaming aren't I?) If there is one scratch on your baby......&*&*%^%@#!!!! B-)

Took the family out for a ride on the Prarie Dog Central. It is a rail tour that goes out for 2 and half hours and makes a couple stops in that time.Their Steam loco is undergoing refit so they were using their GP9. (photos one of these days for ya folks) The six coaches ranged from 1901-1911, so quite old, all restored. Still using original tucks and friction bearings. Aparently it is the oldest regular running coaches in north america. So a good day for all. Doing mental visualizations of my expansion areas in train room. I could run what I have but I want more track and yard capacity. (needed caps lock for that statement)

Latest on the car :x I called them up to keep on top of them. They had to call back as they had to get through to toronto. A women calls me up and asks if I talked to her last week. Nope. She said she'd be upfront with me. She made a mess and my car is still there. Where? I ask. Still in Toronto.... Well I SNAP!! I would be banned for life from this group if I typed the words I said to her. Criminy. Another freaking week. :( The phone went flying into the wall. I won't punch holes in the wall as it is my house. I want to cry. If there office was here I would go and choke the living s**t outta her. Once the car gets here, I'm writing a snotty letter to their head office. Upsaet right now if you didn't notice :S I doubt the letter will change anything afterwards but it is the professional thing to do. Rather than spitting at and cursing the henchmen. Not a good day at all. ^%^$$&% !!!! thaks for listening, dave :x

And the reason you didn't drive the vette is what? It's like the time I took mine in for regular maintenance and when I got back from lunch some joker put a phone message on my desk saying; "Your car is ready but there is a small problem. It fell off the lift." I came unglued!!!! People have to understand that joking about a wrecked vette is not funny. And losing a vette in the paperwork maze is not funny either. I mean, these things are our babies! I feel for you Dave. B-)
