This is Our Group's Library. Please post the names of any Books, Videos or Webpages on Trains or Model Railroading, that you would like to recommend to the Group. If you could include some information, such as author, publisher, availability, and a brief review that would be most helpful. Within other discussions there have been many recommendations. If you can find them, and repeat them here, that would be terrific.

Walthers Model Railroad Reference Books - Various Scales A good reference guide for most products available to the Model Railroader and a good listing of MSRPs Approx cost $20US. Another note to add to all of the above super suggestions, check ebay often for these books and videos etc. Used bookstores, garage sales, etc have been other places we have found many useful supplies! We have been lucky enough to gather many from ebay and amazon.com in very good used condition at a price savings! Just use the search button and type in what you are looking for, it's that easy! Model RR magazines have tons of info and you can get those inexpensively too! DZ

Here are two tittles that Pete recommended in another thread. There is a third in this series. Perhaps Pete can fill in the details. They sound fantastic. "Diesel Locomotives: The First 50 Years" "Guide to North American Steam Locomotives

These following books are ones that Pete used in the Fallen Flag railroad names discussions. Here is the post from Pete... taken out of context 😉 : Guides by Kalmback Publications: The Historical Guide to North American Railroads; Guide to North American Steam Locomotives and Diesel Locomotives, The First 50 Years. Railroads; The Great American Adventure by The National Geographic Society; long out of print. The first three books are very informative with histories of all these RRs, rosters, mergers, equipment, etc. Have questions about a specific RR? These books are the place to go. Also, I (Pete) could briefly help you with info too since I already have the books. But go easy on me. Some of these RRs have extensive listings."

My list of what I have and recommend for ideas in you own layout; -HO Lineside Industries You Can Build (I used it for my N scale) -101 Trackplans by Lynn Wescott -Trackplanning For Realistic Operation By Armstrong. Kalmbach book I think. -N Scale Model Railraoding by Robert Schleicher I "BIN" off ebay for 6.95 (UPC code says $23.95) I have found a lot of ideas in these books. There is more stuff that I didn't do from these books, but they were a help in getting me to think and come up with my own ideas and track plan. Anyone trying to order these and need the ISBN # let me know. -"Trains" magazines -Model RR magazines, "Model Railroader", "Railroad Model Craftsman", annual MR trackplanning editions, etc. BN Dave

I have found this site a very good source of information on Steam Locomotives worldwide: http://www.steamlocomotive.info/index.cfm. It's worth having a peek. Bud.

Here's a great on-line source with tons of very good photos. Off to the left is the menu for loco types, i.e. diesel, steam, electric, etc. Max http://www.northeast.railfan.net/home.html

I just received Vol.II of Hundman Publications Locomotive Cyclopedia. Vol. I was published in the 1980's. If you are a steam buff, these two books are fantastic with builder photos, scale drawings and a written history. Coffee table sized and very heavy. Some of the plans are fold-out pages too. I wonder if Hundman will ever do one for diesels? B-)
