Did you mean:

You can't purchase this item through our app

As the title says, it forces you to add to watch list then you need to use a desktop browser to purchase. What is the point of the eBay app if it's not functional...

Hi @jesternite! There are times when things like this can happen. Try on the website as the message suggests, but my guess is something is going on, like it may not ship to your location.

Re: You can't purchase this item through our app

The point is I don't always have access to a desktop. The seller does ship to my location as we've purchased from them before. "There are times when things like this can happen" is a poor response. I'll just assume no real effort will be made to address it. I let the seller know that your mobile app is hindering their sales.

Re: You can't purchase this item through our app

@jesternite,

I see that you are registered in Australia. Recently, many shipping services in the USA have not been able to provide shipments to Australia due to COVID shipping restrictions, so it is probably related to that in some way.

Just because you have been able to buy from that seller in the past, does not mean that they will necessarily be able to ship to you right now.

The seller is in Australia, the items are also in Australia...

Then you should have asked the question on eBay Australia:

Thank you so kindly for your reply. This was the link provided by the developer contact in reply to my play store review... I can see why the app doesn't work correctly when they can't provide correct links for reporting and have random non employees replying.

Perhaps leave questions for the developers to the developers.

No need to reply, won't be returning to the thread since it won't be addressed correctly.

@jesternite,

I have no idea what you are talking about, because that doesn't make any sense.

It's not because you're speaking Strine, because I normally have no problems understanding Strine, and I regularly work with product engineers in Australia to explain technical specifications, global requirements, and how to conduct test protocols and testing plans to demonstrate compliance.

If you want to get help with an issue, you have to provide a complete explanation of the conditions that led to the problem. You have not done that, so there's no surprise that a resolution has not been found. If you provide a full explanation, maybe we can help. It doesn't sound like you're willing to do that, because you would rather cut off your nose to spite your face. So, go for it.

That is a shame, since if you did return you could have found out how to use a mobile browser in desktop mode to complete your purchase.

The discussion boards are user forums where anyone can post questions or answers, it is not limited to developers or eBay employees.

Just in case anyone who does not mind getting answers from non-developers wants to know how to use a mobile browser in desktop mode:

Doing same thing to me. So when I go to browser and click on my watch list it automatically opens up my app. Frustrating.  Never seen this before.

You can disable that behavior.

If you have an iOS device, tap and hold an eBay link in your browser. You should see some options to have eBay links open in the app or not.

If you have an Android device, use your device Settings. Go to Settings: Apps: eBay: Open by Default: Open Supported Links and choose the option to not allow the eBay app to open links.

Re: You can't purchase this item through our app

Mine has been doing the same thing. It's only certain items though. All US sellers, some of which I've purchased other items from recently! I can buy the lower priced items from them no problem, but as soon as I try to buy the higher priced item, I get the message to use the web browser. So when I log in using a web browser, I get the same stinking message!  This has been happening for months and I can't figure it out. Very frustrating because now all the prices have went up.

Re: You can't purchase this item through our app

Yep, that's a pain. It's not clear from the message when it says you have to use "our website" whether that means eBay's or the seller's. And then if you use your phone and try to go to the website it opens the app. So you have to use another browser that doesn't know your eBay or payment details.

But. Items do tend to be a bit cheaper from those sellers. I suspect they do it to avoid having to pay a cut to Google/ Apple for using the app store. Like Amazon won't let you buy through the app anymore either

I have had the same thing happen. I am I total agreement. It is ridiculous!

"Oh but you can disable the auto app opening protocol by......"

No thanks, I'll just use a better platform to buy stuff from.
