I don't work for eBay - all I can do is offer information about available options @melan.powel , which does not require buying a new phone. You can still access eBay via your phone's web browser (even if not your preferred option) until a later date when you decide you want to / are able to / are ready to upgrade your phone. If you access eBay via your browser I suggest deleting the app so links won't automatically try to open in the app.

You're saying you cannot access eBay through your phone's web browser (Safari, Firefox, etc) and going to https://www.ebay.co.uk @melan.powel even after deleting the app?

Basically its another case of big (rich) organisations being A. Lazy and B Uncaring. They basically are making so much they dont give a s..t about the little people.
e.g an iphone 7 stuck on ios 15… can work perfectly, but for, a few app developers that dont build in back compatability.
indeed, the incompatibility is probably deliberate.
for this particular Ebay app problem there is NO solution, Apple have cleverly built in safeguards, offer an older compatible version.
BUT, ebay have deliberately and maliciously out of sheer badness, put in a blocker that detects and prevents the older app from working on ebay.
I wont be changing my phone for sure!
I will be not bothering with ebay on it.

Sadly this destiny appear to work. Pop-up message suggests an older version can be downloaded but when clicking through it installs the non-pre17 version of the app.

eBay has changed the minimum app requirements since this thread began last October.
What operating system and app version? eBay recently changed the minimum requirements to be able to use the latest version of the app (iOS 17 and Android 10), and many older app versions may not work any more.
According to a post on the UK community boards, the latest version of the eBay app requires Android 10 or later, or iOS 17 or later.
There is another version of the app available for iOS 16 users; see here:
https://community.ebay.com/t5/Mobile-Apps/How-to-update-your-eBay-app/m-p/34920437#M50572
A possible workaround for iOS 15 users is suggested here:

If you cannot upgrade your operating system or find an older version of the app that works with your current operating system, you should still be able to use a browser to go to ebay.co.uk instead.
If eBay browser links are opening in the Android version of the app automatically, you can disable that by going to your device Settings: Apps: eBay: Open by default: Opens supported links and choosing "Don't open in the app". iOS users can tap and hold an eBay browser link and choose "Don't open in the app". Or just delete the eBay app entirely.

And the Amazon app (along with all other apps installed) still work fine on my IOS 15.8 device…
