Can’t update the app due to an old phone

I’ve currently lost my eBay app as it won’t let me update my iPhone 7 to IOS 16. Any suggestions?

Me too, I have a 1st generation iPhone SE which can’t be updated further than 15.8.2.

Please eBay release a version that will work on older IOS, there must be thousands of us that now can’t use the app!!

Open a browser and use the web version at ebay.com

If your operating system does not support the latest version of the eBay app and you cannot update your operating system, it should still be possible to use a mobile browser to go to ebay.com or ebay.co.uk and use eBay that way.

If eBay browser links are opening in the app automatically, iOS users should be able to tap and hold an eBay browser link and select "don't open in the app" to prevent that from happening. Android users need to go to the device Settings: Apps: eBay: Open by default: Open supported links and select "don't open in the app".

Thanks for the various replies. I’m aware that I can still use eBay via a browser but rather liked having the app as a separate entity. I guess I’m stuck with either making do with the browser option or upgrading my phone unless eBay developers take pity on those with an older iOS.

Thanks for reporting this. If your device has iOS 15 you should still be able to get a version of the app that will run on your device

1. Delete your ebay app
2. Go to the App Store, search for ebay
3. When you download it you will see this alert, tapping download should allow you to get a version that will run on your device.

Hi Devon, 

Sadly what you have suggested does not work. It brings up a message saying ‘update required’ and sends you back to the newest version.

Please can you ask the ‘product team’ to make the older app version available for us users of older phones.

@ab973 Are you on iOS 15? If so that old post from October will not work. In the UK you need a min of iOS 16 for that to work. See below in bold for iOS 15.

Instructions here: How to update your eBay app

- Requires Android 10 or later
- Requires iOS 17 or later, but there are directions for iOS 16 users to access an older version of the app

When using iOS 15 or Android 9 and not able to update to a compatible OS, you can still access eBay from a web browser on your device, and you'll probably want to delete the app so links open in your browser instead of the app.

Please read my thread "Workaround for app access on iPhones" for a way to get the app working again. I try to keep it on the first page.
