I am selling the same coat a several other sellers are selling. I have mine in the smallest box that it will fit in and the lowest shipping cost I'm getting is $33.00. Weighs 8 pounds,, but is a long suede and fur coat. All the other sellers are shipping for around $12.00. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any info on reducing shipping costs.

If I bought your coat, the shipping would be $34.17 to NE Ohio.

Since shipping is based, in part, on how far the package has to travel, wouldn't the shipping fee vary significantly, depending on destination?

Plus, have you considered that maybe some of those other sellers are blending at least a part of the shipping cost into the price of the item?

Wondering two things...

1. They might be using a flat rate box on USPS.

2. They are probably just having it cheaper and losing money on that and including it in the cost of the coat.

If their are comps on it and they sell with the $12 shipping then you probably won't be selling yours with the $30+ shipping.

A better way to compare apples to apples would be to look at total -- item price + shipping.

I have that same coat for sale. 🙂 It sold once and was returned with a reason of doesn't fit. The buyer was in NY (I'm in KY) and paid $23.50 for shipping with the actual cost being $19.31. You cost shows $18.36 for me so it's within reason. I agree with the two other posters that the lower cost sellers must be blending the cost of shipping in with the price of the coat.

Shows $30 to me in NV; another seller has same coat, used, for $349. Just adjust price to $229 with Free Shipping and you will look better than most (because people like stuff for free)

Thank you all for the info. I found a smaller box that it would fit in and got the shipping way down. I will try the free shipping and just raise the price too. The size of the box, was the difference.

When you pack that coat to ship @murray616, add a couple pieces of cardboard both on the bottom and the top. The last thing you want is for someone to use a utility knife or scissors to cut through the tape and end up cutting the coat itself. Put in that barrier between both the top and bottom box flaps and the object inside. I'm assuming from what you posted so far that the coat may be snugly packed.
