Did you mean:

there must be a better website than ebay

I purchased a product that had money back guarantee in the title.  I emailed the seller several times confirming money back policy.  Service was not delivered and ebay would not honor the stated warranty.

why pay ebay 15% for nothing?  craigslist does not pretend to get involved and only charges $3

Hi, did you check tracking details of the package? If it says that the package has been delivered to you, it's almost nothing you can do to get your money back. Also, if you paid by using Paypal, I suggest you to contact them and try to get the refund.

Have a nice day!

@dilurange

The OP eventually mentioned that this is a digital item.

Because those are delivered electronically, eBay does not cover them under the Money Back Guarantee.

But it is important that buyers know that the MBG is not the last resort. As you say, Paypal and the buyer's credit card both have Buyer Protections for their clients.

Unfortunately, it is unlikely they extent protection on digital items either.

It would be worth trying.

That’s your state charging you that. eBay is just collecting it.

And this thread is 5 months old.

That tax is required by law to be collected due to where you live; they want your money: eBay does not get that money:  Ebay get a small amount from the seller on the fees they charge due to that tax...eBay do not get to keep the tax, but your state does....

You barking up the wrong tree; gripe to your state about the tax. Not that it would do nay good.

Multiple problems here maybe you can help clear it up so someone might be able to help you.

A seller's money back guarantee is meaningless as is a warranty unless they are the manufacturer or officially licensed retailer.

Ebay has the MBG and that is the only thing you need to be concerned with for the first 30 days.

Why are you using email to conduct ebay business? Stop doing that forever.

Did you buy an item or a service?

...and what is this 15% you are talking about.

No of this makes any sense.

When a poster has difficulty in explaining the problem, it is very likely they will also have difficulty in understanding how the problem came about and difficulty in understanding how to solve the problem or at least avoid it in future.

In some cases this is because the poster is working in a second language.

That does not seem to be the case here.

This is what I see when I look at the listing.

eBay collects tax ... but only if the state the item is shipped to requires tax to be collected.  eBay doesn’t charge buyers anything itself.

ebay telling me to chase down credit card company - why?  they don't have money back guarantee and charge 15%

@dod1857 ,

No, the listing you purchased actually said that it was NOT covered by any eBay buyer protection programs.

The seller has now been kicked off eBay. You will need to do a payment dispute with either PayPal (if you used them) or your credit card company. If your credit card company or bank charges you 15%, that is between you and them. Mine doesn't.

Nice try.   I guess you missed the point.

Ebay is knowingly allowing scammers to take money since they get their cut just like the big guy.  let's go brandon.  ebay is full of scammers.  I got hit several more times with "lifetime" that was actually a few months.
