seller increased shipping cost after auction close

I just had a seller increase the shipping cost of an item from the calculated total that was stated in the listing. I noticed now at the bottom of the listing they wrote something about how they sometimes manually adjust the shipping totals after the auction close. Is this against the rules of ebay? I thought the seller always had to honor the shipping price that was stated on the listing.

Re: seller increased shipping cost after auction close

With us it happens frequently (Thailand). Stated shipping rates and calculated rates seem to get mixed up frequently.  I see many times about the inaccuracies that US sellers have with the shipping calculator there, but we sometimes get the e-packet rate added to our costs. Thailand is not China. The Chinese can ship 100g to the US for about 90 cents with tracking, it would cost us $6. The buyer sees the actual cost at first and buys the item, then their sent a reduced shipping invoice which they pay and ebay expects us to honor.

I suppose it would depend on whether you were viewing the listing with your actual zip code or not.  If you purchase the S&H calculated would be based on the zip of your primary shipping address, I believe.

I took the liberty of checking your feedback page.  I'm a bit surprised at your 37 bid retraction record.  Why would a seller have that many?

Where on a users feedback page is their bid retraction record located?

On their feedback as a buyer page.

Thanks. I knew where to look for Revised Feedback but never knew about the Bid Retraction Record.

Although I've seen more, I would block someone with that many.

You need to honour the terms and conditions of your auction listing. It's not the buyer's fault that they don't know you can't ship their item for 90 cents.

If you want to ensure the buyer pays enough postage, check your listings to ensure accuracy (we use templates for various things to limit mistakes). You can view how much shipping someone will pay by changing your location to see the adjusted shipping amount. Change your location to USA and you'll see what a USA buyer expects to pay.

You can be reported for changing the shipping after the auction ends.

Cheers, C.
