somehow it works if you type in the browser... https:// mesg.ebay.com /mesgweb/ViewMessages/0/All  but then it just defaults back to ebays new chat when you click on the message you send.. ;/

Re: how do you switch back to the old message format?

Just checked into a "contact seller" scenario. THERE is NO place provided to type the message into, just send (grayed out) and the option to send my email a copy, but no space provision to type the message into. Way beyond STUPID programming!

What specifically is not working about the new format for you guys? I don't think anybody in this thread has mentioned a specific issue - only that they don't like it.

Re: how do you switch back to the old message format?

This is why I don't specifically like it. Before, messages were displayed across my PC's entire screen. Now they're truncated on the left side while there's an unnecessary eBay photo on the right side. And when you click on a message it opens as an abridged form in the right side so that you have to scroll down to read the message and any replies. Completely ridiculous.

Re: how do you switch back to the old message format?

I hate this and figure will have to add a disclaimer to the item description stating that all messages be directed to ebay to answer. Changing something that worked just fine rather than address the issue that have never been fixed would make more sense..I get endless complaints from buyers about ebay issues.

Re: how do you switch back to the old message format?

It used to be a  clean format like an email inbox.  Now is just a truncated left side table of crap that is about useless. Scroll down and open one and it then makes a narrow table of lines to scroll down on right side and is just a mess to read, reply or manipulate in any fashion. Have you ever seen eBay make a programming change in anything and it ACTUALLY IMPROVE the function????

I agree there's a frustrating aspect to that. We can collapse the folders panel on the left which expands the message list and the message view panel a bit wider. Maybe that will help a fraction?

As for the eBay photo on the right side - that's because your top message is "a $50 statement credit can be yours" and the photo is part of that message. As soon as a new message comes in you'll see the new message and not the photo @css2001 .

Yes - mostly shipping-related, a few seller hub tools.

For the most part over the last 2 calendar years, changes have been inefficient, loss of function, app-mimicking frustrations.

Re: how do you switch back to the old message format?

I am glad for you that you have experienced programming changes that worked. I have always been a buyer (only) and have never had any intent or desire to sell here so do not have the experience of updates that work for the client. I have only been here since 2006 and may yet see one happen, however, I began my own career in computer support of hardware and software 54 years ago and have been retired for 19 years now. Ebay just seems to change it for grits and shins.

Re: how do you switch back to the old message format?

Don't take this out on the messenger, but I'm giving you a heads up on something:

eBay announced last month that they're working on a new buying experience. There are going to be changes to search in how things are displayed, navigation, filters, etc. I expect we'll start seeing it next Spring or maybe Summer.

Personally I think I'm going to hate a lot of the changes. I think they are (once again) going to mimic the app where you have to click click click click click to apply filters, instead of having that convenient filter panel on the left side of the page like we do now. It will all be nested under menu buttons or something similar.

I wish eBay would stop trying to make their website function like an app.

Re: how do you switch back to the old message format?

Having spent much of my adult life in support, I refuse to use "apps" or even text and still refer to functional coding as "applications", do not use a smartphone at all, just what we called foldaphones  when first intro, the came the candybar which disappeared at Gen3. A phone is a poor sub for a computer for securely accessing anything online.  Mine is now called a "flip phone" by the grand kids. I only use a desktop with  ethernet 400mbps fiber link from the phone company. Have not used a laptop or tablet in the 20 years since retirement and only did that when traveling in the 5 states I was managing then, copying everything to my workplace desktop immediately upon return to base.

My opinion about the click, click, click nested approach to filtering is that for the past 40 years site hosts have used "click counts" to artificially inflate their traffic volume counts and then routinely inflate their fees for users on advertising, promotions, and the like based upon that mirage, like eBay  Thanks for the heads up I am now past 80 y.o. and just spending my grand kids' inheritance anyway.

😂Hey, enjoy it while you've got it.

I'm probably a lot closer to your grandkids' generation. I do use smartphones and tablets and apps, but for business I use my laptop and do not want websites to have limited function like mobile apps. They're different devices and have different capabilities. eBay shouldn't be dumbing-down the website.
