I was interested in an item that allowed buyers to make an offer. I searched around for the item an came up with what U thought was q reasonable offer but the offer was declined Ed so I made a made a larger offer and again it was declined. I made a third offer and this time it expired without a response. So I tried to make another offer but I got a message saying that I was not allowed to purchase this item because I had made another purchase from the same seller within the previous 10 days
1. I had never pur hated anything from this person. before.
.2. Why would previous purchases matter?
I sent the seller a message but haven't heard back so now what do I do?

The person who I was referring to as having the gold is the owner(s) of eBay. Go back and read my comment with that definition in mind.
I have ZERO problems (clear enough?) with you or anyone else waiting for a price they have in mind. Are you suggesting I do?

Also, just so you know, this is a code of sorts with sellers 🙄
Ahh yes, the blessed day at the end of snarky post...............

If you sensed snark naybe it's because you deserved it. It's not the intent I was going for but if it helps you feel better about yourself, carry on.

Yet here you are. If you don't want to talk to me why not take the opportunity to do something else?
Do you not have anything better to do? Or is it your belief that your opinion is the holy grail of opinions that everyone is just desperately waiting to hear?

4. I do take issue with being called entitled for suggesting common courtesies. Is saying: no thank you, that hard or time consuming? Is that expectation unreasonable?
Or put another way, if a seller fails to respond to a message who is the one acting entitled? The only reason I emphasize my "playing by the rules" is the viewpoint that I did something wrong for trying to take advantage of ebay rules. I was informed by ebay that I had two more offer opportunities and I would have offered more but I couldn't. I came to this forum to see if there was something I did wrong or more importantly if tgere was a solution. Having a difference in opinions about buying strategy or the value of an item is NOT acting entitled. Calling someone entitled because of a difference in opinions is acting entitled in my opinion. YMMV
Thank you sincerely for your response.
I'm going to answer both of your responses in 1 here. Yes, I apologize, I did misunderstand your comment about who has the gold. I thought you were referring to the buyer, not Ebay. Because of your comments in your post #6 referring to the old adage that the customer is always right (which you identified as an old adage), referring to the fact that Ebay & sellers in particular need customers & that in a way, sellers are working for the buyer, I misunderstood your statement & thought you meant the buyer has the gold.
That said, it really doesn't change my points. I was just trying to answer your question as to what is likely happening in your scenario, from a seller's perspective.
I'm not the one who called you a "Karen", I don't use that term. But I did say you come off as entitled & I stand by that. I understand you disagree. IDK how old you are, but I am a not-young "Boomer" & the things you are saying, particularly in post 6, sound like things my parents would say. You ask if it's that hard or time consuming to tell you no & if the expectation is unreasonable.
It's not that hard to say no BUT there's nothing in it for the seller, in the scenario you described. In general, people don't do things that don't have something in it for them. It's one of the first rules of sales. You seem to have a strong sense of fairness, as you keep saying you played by the rules. No one is disputing that. Thing is, the seller played by the rules too. You are not entitled to an explanation. In this day & age, if you insult a seller by lowballing them 3x, yes, it is pretty unreasonable to expect them to take their time to reply to you. You've already insulted them & they view their time as being better spent somewhere else, plus there is nothing for them to gain, as they are clearly not going to make a deal with you.
I realize you don't like it & I realize you feel you are owed the "common courtesy" of a reply. More often that not, when you lowball someone, that's not going to happen. Basically by not communicating, they are communicating - they don't want your business. Unless the seller is desperate, the prevailing view is that there is simply nothing to be gained by communicating with a lowballer, esp a 3 time low baller. I'm not going to argue whether that's right or wrong, as the answer to that depends on the person, their age & their POV in any situation. It may be right, it may be wrong. It is however, reality. The vast majority of sellers are not going to communicate with you after you've lowballed them multiple times. Many will block you just for 1 lowball. Again, right or wrong? Doesn't really matter. It's reality.
Everybody played by the rules, it just wasn't going to work. No one is "lecturing" you. Just trying to answer your question honestly, as to why you most likely were not able to use your other 2 counters. It sometimes helps to see the perspective of the other side.

Wasn't looking for a change. Merely an understanding of how offers are supposed to work on eBay. Comments like yours have convinced me that I have found all the insight that I am likely to find here .
But maybe you should look into selling bumper stickers.

And as per my message #19 - I answered you.........
As per the rules of eBay regarding offers:
When a seller receives an offer the seller has the option to:
1. Accept the offer
2. Decline the offer
3. Make a counter offer
4. IGNORE the offer
and yet................

If the system said you had 5 offers but could only do 3, it's either a glitch, or the seller blocked you after your 3rd offer.

This thread is getting a bit heated. Please remember that, while it is fine to disagree with others, discussion should always remain courteous and respectful.
