Unable to bid on item using Win 10 Firefox or Edge

Unable to bid on item using Win 10 Firefox or Edge browsers.

This started yesterday and the same today.

I have logged out, restarted the PC, turned off Adblocker, all with no change.

I can however bid on the same item using my Samsung phone.

Win 10 did do an update a few days ago, and i hadn't bid on anything else since before the update.

So this may be the issue.

Re: Unable to bid on item using Win 10 Firefox or Edge

Are you trying to bid on ebay.com or ebay.co.uk?

What happens when you try to place a bid?

Hi, the same issue happens on both ebay.com and ebay.co.uk.

I get a white box appear with a cross, top right (to cancel).

In the middle is a blue rotating circle.Capture ebay.JPG

Re: Unable to bid on item using Win 10 Firefox or Edge

What browser are you using? Is it the latest version?

Any difference if you try another browser or disable add-ons?

Re: Unable to bid on item using Win 10 Firefox or Edge

I realize you said you tried Firefox and Edge, but I am not having any issues bidding using either of those on a Windows 10 machine.

If you are able to bid using a different browser, try clearing your cache and possibly deleting eBay cookies in Edge and Firefox.

Re: Unable to bid on item using Win 10 Firefox or Edge

I have clear the cache still no change on bidding, but it appears that i can use fixed price listings.

I installed Chrome and it does exactly the same as Firefox and Edge, will not accept bids on open auctions.

Are you able to bid using the eBay app? Or a mobile browser?

Re: Unable to bid on item using Win 10 Firefox or Edge

@saabgdc,

You've tried logging out and in again ad you can bid from the app, but have you tried clearing your temporary internet files and cookie cache, then restarting your computer?  Do you let Firefox auto install updates? If so did you check the one that came out a few days ago for issues?  If Edge had an update did you check it too?  Get the update numbers from your history and check online for issues with them.

Any chance when you tried to bid, you were using the computer at a remote from your home or office connection?  If so that connection may not have had the proper security certificates for ebay bidding/buying/paying.

Re: Unable to bid on item using Win 10 Firefox or Edge

I have a very similar issue.  Waterfox (firerfox variant) on Win7.

unable to bid.PNG

I am using Waterfox (classic) , a firefox variant. It is known to have issues with some polyfill code on some web pages.

However I have it customized the way I need, it is configurable to block many "exploits" used for ads and tracking, I can run uMatrix (appropriate domains are allowed) and it worked with ebay bid screens a couple of weeks ago.  The ebay site works fine, except I just cant bid.  Buy it now works fine.

Please do not suggest "updating" to a mainstream browser, most of these are designed to treat the user as a source from which to gather info for their advertisers, and not what is best or desired function by the user.

Even if I temporarily disable all domain filtering on the browser and disable my pihole, and enable third party cookies,  the problem persists.  I believe it is a browser issue, Firefox does indeed  have a very small market share.

If I bootup a Win7 virtual machine, Chrome works but I will ***never*** use a google product for my everyday tasks.

This was a recent change.  Help??

Re: Unable to bid on item using Win 10 Firefox or Edge

Please do not suggest "updating" to a mainstream browser

Use a mainstream browser to bid and use Waterfox for your other (non-bidding) tasks.

Or bid using the eBay app.

eBay recommends using the latest version of any of the following browsers: Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Safari. Other browsers and other versions may work, but may not work for every feature.

Interestingly, although it appears I cannot open a bid window on ebay.com using Waterfox Classic, I can open a bid window on ebay.ca. You may want to try placing a bid on another eBay site to see if that works for you.

No bid window: ebay.com, ebay.com.au or ebay.co.uk

Bid window loads on ebay.ca and ebay.ie

Re: Unable to bid on item using Win 10 Firefox or Edge

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions, nothing seem to work.

I also loaded Chrome on as well and the same problem with that as well.

All three browsers are the latest versions.

As i said my andriod phone did work so i could bid.

I did also try ebay.com with the same problem.

At your suggestion I tried ebay.ca and surprise surprise it worked after logging in again and searching for my uk item i wanted to bid on.

Is this only me, or is there a larger issue?
