Hello there! First time poster here.
I was wondering what others thought about this ebay dispute I had with a seller this week. They advertised a 4k bluray movie that when received actually turned out to be a regular 1080p movie, not 4k. I actually already owned the original 1080p movie so was looking forward to the 4k upgrade. The seller acknowledged that it was indeed not the 4k, but that really it doesn't matter because it's such an old movie you wouldn't be able to even tell the difference between the 4k and original bluray. I told them that that really doesn't matter, the item received does not match the original description, and they told me they didn't care and do not accept any returns, not exception. They also rudely told me to go cry about it.
I called ebay and they ended up refunding me themselves, which is nice, but was I being picky in this scenario and being a "bad buyer" ? This seller seemed so sure of themselves and their behavior that I wonder if I was the one being a jerk. We wanted a 4k movie upgrade, which this was advertised as, but it was not, so am I the jerk here?

Just to be clear since maybe I haven’t been, the flow of this was
1) Politely message the seller with photos showing this wasn’t actually 4k
2) Seller says no refunds, no exceptions
3) Open a return case
4) Seller accepts return and sends another No Refunds message. Claims that this is indeed 4k
5) Long and frustrating conversation with photos and links making clear this was not the item described, that it’s not 4k
6) Seller accepts that it isn’t 4k, but says that I wouldn’t notice the difference between 4k and 1080p anyway because it’s such an old movie
7) I go on again claiming that doesn’t matter, this item doesn’t match the description, period
8 ) Seller gets progressively more rude and tells me to go cry to ebay
9) I call ebay and they issue a refund

But thankfully ebay went and refunded me on their own, which again was great but I still feel the seller themselves should have done so. Hopefully they don't do that again in the future.
Glad to hear that this worked out well for you. But, you've been here quite a long time, so why would you not simply open an item not as described case, wait 3 days for seller's response, then return to the case and ask eBay to step in?
Not sure why the words "bad buyer" would even be considered here. Surely you realized that you were not.
Which was pointed out in post #8:
OP did, seller did not respond so eBay stepped in......''I actually did start by opening a return, and they "accepted" it but refused to honor it and told me to complain to ebay.''
Surely don't hindsight a return, which had already been done. Have you read the eBay MBG for buyers?

eBay refunded you but the refund was charged back to the seller.
The seller's no refund policy is meaningless. When eBay saw the seller didn't issue you a return label when you called then they went ahead and refunded you and the seller got a defect for a case unresolved by the seller.
