Someone inside of eBay is using my account without my permission. Check your accounts!

My recently viewed items suddenly had a bunch of sex dolls, and other strange items, which I had never looked at. I looked at my account logins, and it shows logins at 2 and 3AM, when myself and my husband (the only ones in my house) are sleeping. The logins show both the device and location as being 'not available.' I change my password immediately, and turn on 2-factor authentication, where I get a text with a code to be able to login. NO ONE has access to my new login. The next night the exact same thing happened again. I had not gone anywhere, and use only my laptop for logging in.

I call eBay. The agent says tells me that they see no one logging into my account at 2 and 3AM. They say that the sex dolls, etc. showing in my 'recently viewed' items is a bug, and they will put me on the list of users affected. I had contacted eBay recently for assistance, and this issue started right after I did. Their employees obviously have access to my account, and seem to be staying logged into it after I contact them, and using it for their own means. When I called eBay this morning, the service agent's log in to look at my account looked EXACTLY THE SAME as the previous logins at 2 and 3AM: device and location 'not available'.

Check your recently viewed items (on eBay's front page), and contact eBay if there is something there which you don't recognize. They have a major security risk here. They do not seem willing to admit it. Definitely not 'a bug'.

I hope this can be escalated past the agent who I talked to.

What everyone including the blue missed/misstates is that online customer service everywhere

-- assumes their customer's account credentials

-- and is directly logged in without a password

-- as their browser is on the internal network.

The no-password login is logged as a no location/no device login because it's from the internal network, but a login nonetheless with a date and time.

This is how the rep can retry the steps which the buyer/seller says don't work for example, or see their error pop-ups. But if the rep forgets to log out or close the browser, then continues to browse eBay in between calls, eBay

1. tracks those interests and sends marketing emails, and

2. records them as recently-viewed items.

Those emails and lists of recent views is not a glitch: The glitch is not forcing the rep to clear all cookies (which continue to track the buyer/seller when the browser is re-opened; incognito/private would toss cookies) and close their browser.

It's not an employee.

There are bad guys all over the place.

One of them has your account password.

You better change it.

Did you even read my post?

I DID change my password, and immediately after someone was STILL using my account. No one gained my new password in the 12 hours I was sitting at home after I changed it.

Scan your PC for a virus or keylogger.  Disconnect from the internet to scan.  Power down your system after the scan.  Reboot.

Smartphones get viruses too, so do the same thing.  Scan the PC and phone.

I have done this.

I don't even use a phone.

When I told the agent about the 'recently viewed' items issue, they said it was a known problem, and did not seem at all surprised.

Isn't anybody going to ask the question about the elephant in the room?

The OP is a seller with over 13,500 transaction on ebay.

A seller with over 1200 listings,  on ebay

A seller since Sept.  2006  on ebay

A seller with over 13,500 sales  on ebay

A seller with that resume seemingly "Hacked" and some unknown person is surfing ebay

and looking at Sex dolls and other strange things.

Why hasn't your hacker done any of the things hackers or account thieves normally do?    Like makes sales and divert the funds into their pockets.

Sell 1,000 PS5s for $50.00 each

Sell a few ozs of Gold for a huge discount.

Looking at sex toys isn't very profitable to the average account thief.

I don't understand what my business has to do with someone else using my account without authorization.

Nowhere did I claim that someone was trying to profit off of my account. If I had to guess, I would say it is bored call center employees in whichever low-wage country the center is located in. Maybe they don't have internet at home. Someone is also looking at diaper bags and baby formula.

I am only trying to relay this information to other users. There is no reason for personal attacks.

My problem,  (Among others)   is trying to find the logic of somebody stealing your password

for the purpose of surfing ebay.

What would be the point?

If they don't have internet,   They can't switch your password.

It wasn't my intention to personally attack you.

I don't believe they stole my password at all.

I believe they stayed logged into my account after I contacted customer service, and are using my account as wanted at the call center. I don't know if they have access to purchase anything. Therein lies one possible issue.

Maybe they can list things on my account. Maybe they can change my product prices. Maybe they can change my listings. I don't know. MANY issues may arise with unauthorized account access.

No idea of the cause, but there's a disconnect between the eBay claim that it's a known issue and your certitude that it is eBay itself using your account.

Is there another possible explanation? The "Unknown device" message, on its own, isn't enough to make a determination that it's an eBay employee.
